Russia on its own axis - incl. St. Petersburg Harley® Days

"On your own motorcycle on Red Square to stand and soak up the exciting atmosphere was simply overwhelming. The rest of the tour is the icing on the cake."

So and so similarly we heard from the participants of our first "Russia on your own bike" tour and were proud that everyone was enthusiastic about the trip.

But before we reach the Red Square we saddle our motorcycles at the start of the tour near Vienna, of course we stow the luggage in the escort vehicle. Already from Vienna accompanied by our Russian guide our way leads first through Hungary and the Ukraine to Russia. Moscow, with Red Square, St. Petersburg with Catherine Palace and Amber Room. Unforgettable impressions that will inspire you all your life. What the Harley® riders will particularly enjoy among the participants: When we arrive in St. Petersburg, the St. Petersburg Harley® Days begin there. We then continue along the Baltic Sea through Estonia and Latvia and finally through Lithuania, Poland and the Czech Republic back to Austria.

Nine countries. A tour. On your own bike. Or as our participants said, "icing on the cake." And what a thing!

Day 1: The arrival day

Independent journey to the starting point of the tour. Meeting point for all participants and the first hotel night is in a nice hotel near Vienna airport. At the first dinner together you will get to know your tour guides and all other participants.

Tip: If you want to start your journey by car and motorbike trailer, you can park at the hotel at favourable conditions during the tour.

Day 2: Vienna - Mukatschewe, UKR595 km

Today we start very early. We stow the luggage in the escort vehicle and first have to master the connecting stage through Hungary. Mainly on the motorway it goes through the Hungarian Puszta, past Budapest in the direction of Transcarpathia. Directly after the Ukrainian border lies our place of overnight stay and we dive for the first time into this world so strange to us.

Day 3: Mukatschewe - Rivne, UKR 440 km

We cross the Carpathians and enjoy the first day of riding in Ukraine. Our overnight stay in Riwne was already granted city charter in the 15th century and is located in the northeast of Ukraine.

Day 4: Rivne - Kiev, UKR330 km

The capital of Ukraine, Kiev, with 3 million inhabitants, is also the largest city and lies on the river Dnepr. After our arrival we do a city tour with a local guide.

Day 5: Kiev - Bryansk, RUS530 km

The longest day of the journey is waiting for us. Very early in the morning we start for the Russian border. After the border formalities we "experience" our first kilometres on Russian asphalt until we reach our overnight destination Bryanks.

Day 6: Bryansk - Moscow400 km

On our liaison stage to Moscow we get more impressions of life in Russia. After our arrival in Moscow in the early evening we will take a leisurely walk for dinner in a restaurant near the Kremlin.

Day 7 + Day 8: Moscow - Sightseeing

On the two days in Moscow we dive deeply into the life of the Muscovites and the Russian culture. Of course we visit the Red Square, the Basilius Cathedral (outside) and the Kremlin. We visit the famous shopping centre GUM and walk along Arbat Street, the most famous pedestrian zone in Moscow, where you can buy lots of Russian souvenirs. We explore the extraordinary Moscow metro "Metro", the Gorky Park and enjoy from the Sparrow Mountains probably the best view of the city. You have to see it for yourself!

Day 9: Moscow - Tver230 km

In the morning we ride to Red Square to take some pictures of us with the motorcycles. Right after that we leave Moscow and head north. Our daily destination, the city of Tver, was first mentioned in a document in 1127 and is thus about 20 years older than Moscow. After a walk through the city centre we enjoy a relaxed remaining free afternoon/evening.

Day 10: Tver - Veliky Novgorod370 km

Veliky Novgorod is one of the oldest and most famous cities in Russia. In 2009 it celebrated its 1150th anniversary and is considered the birthplace of the Russian state and its democracy. Also here we take a little walk through the old town and the Novgorod Kremlin, which was first mentioned in 1044.

Day 11: Veliky Novgorod - Saint Petersburg240 km

We cross some smaller cities on this stage before we reach the next big highlight of the trip: The cosmopolitan city of Saint Petersburg. Founded by Peter the Great in 1703, it was the capital of the Russian Empire until the 20th century. Countless palaces, stately homes and castles bear witness to this period. Called Leningrad from 1924 to 1991, it is today with 5 million inhabitants the second largest Russian city and the fourth largest in Europe. The highest building in Europe with 462 m, the Lakhta Center, is also located here.

Day 12 + Day 13: Saint Petersburg - Sightseeing

On the two "Sightseeing Days" in St. Petersburg there is a lot on the programme: The Peterhof, where we will see dozens of fountains in the lower garden, which have been delighting their viewers for over 250 years. The "Russian Versailles" is nothing short of its French model in luxury, decoration and engineering genius. We take walks in the city centre, e.g. around the Palace Square, on the boulevard "Nevsky Prospekt", to the Church of the Redeemer on Blood and along the rivers and canals in the city. One of the largest and most important art museums in the world is also there: The Hermitage. Pictures by Rembrandt, Rubens, da Vinci and van Gogh, Egyptian mummies, the collection is almost breathtaking. According to calculations, the visit to all the exhibitions in the Hermitage would take at least a week. Unfortunately, we don't have that much time, but you can believe us that you will also be impressed by a visit over half a day. For many THE cultural highlight on the tour: The Katharinenpalast with the world-famous Amber Room.

After the sightseeing, respectively in the evenings there is the possibility to visit the St. Petersburg Harley® Days.

Day 14: Saint Petersburg - day at leisure / parade

The day is at leisure. Our Russian guide will be happy to give you tips for the day, because there is still a lot to see. Anyone who wants to take part in a major motorcycle parade has the opportunity today: The official parade of the St. Petersburg Harley® Days runs 36 km across the city and was voted the most beautiful parade in the world by Harley® managers because of its unusual routing. If you like, you can spend the rest of the day at the St. Petersburg Harley® Days party or just relax.

Day 15: Saint Petersburg - Narva, EST210 km

We leave St. Petersburg and reach the border to Estonia and the EU at Ivangorod/Narva. We say goodbye to Mother Russia and look forward to a relaxing afternoon at the Baltic Sea. It is not far from the hotel to the water. Who is courageous puts on his bathing clothes, allegedly the Baltic Sea should have end of July / beginning of August in shore proximity up to 23 degrees. Overnight stay in Narva room.

Day 16: Narva - Tallinn, EST210 km

We continue to the capital of Estonia, Tallinn. After our arrival at the centrally located hotel, we take a city tour on foot and stay in the old town for dinner.

Day 17: Tallinn - Riga, LET280 km

A new day, a new country. Latvia's capital Riga is the largest city in the Baltic States and lies on the Baltic Sea. With its famous medieval old town, it is also considered a special pearl of this area. After our arrival at the hotel we do another city tour on foot.

Day 18: Riga - Vilnius, LIT290 km

Our last riding day in the Baltic States. With Lithuania we reach the southernmost of the three Baltic states. The old town of the capital Vilnius is one of the largest in Eastern Europe. Due to its many churches of Italian master builders, it hears the nickname "Rome of the East". After our arrival at the hotel we do another city tour on foot.

Day 19: Vilnius - Warsaw, POL470 km

With Warsaw we reach the capital of Poland. The long and turbulent history of the city is reflected in its diverse architecture. The old town was rebuilt after its destruction in the Second World War. City tour on foot in the evening.

Day 20: Warsaw - Silesia380 km

We get closer and closer to the starting point of our big round trip and spend our last day in Poland. The overnight stay takes place in the south of Silesia not far from the Czech border and we enjoy our last evening together.

Day 21: Katowice - Vienna300 km

Unfortunately, it is time to say goodbye today. With many beautiful memories in our luggage we set off on the rest of our way home. Passing Brno you will be guided by your guide over the motorway to the starting point of the tour near Vienna. After the bikes are faster than the luggage bus, some take their luggage with them on the motorcycle and say goodbye along the route. Of course, one can also pick up one's luggage in the afternoon at the hotel at the tour start location near Vienna. In addition, it is also possible to pick up your luggage the next day at the office of Motorcycle and Holiday or have it sent to you by parcel service (optional). End of tour.

Tip: If the route to the south and Vienna would be a detour on your way home, you can say goodbye to the other tour participants on departure from the hotel in Vilnius (or after the night in Warsaw or Katowice) and start your journey home on your own.
