- our Baltic States tour for those in a hurry
- compact journey with many impressions
- attractive secondary lines
- one night each in Vilnius, Riga and Tallinn
- incl. ferry from Kiel / to Lübeck-Travemünde
This compact tour introduces you to the Baltic States with all its facets - despite the short time available. For the three magnificent capitals Vilnius, Riga and Tallinn, the university city of Tartu, Memelland, the Gauja National Park and Lake Peipus are stations. Thus lively metropolises with extensive landscapes and castles of religious orders with picturesque little towns complement each other to form a varied mosaic.
A tour for those who put the emphasis on riding: On this trip you will cover more than 1,300 km through the most beautiful landscapes of the Baltic States. The daily stages are relatively long, but all of them are easy to ride. We have planned as many routes as possible off the main routes. The route leads almost exclusively on asphalt roads. Some detours may include short gravel roads.
1st day: Arrival
Individual arrival in Kiel and embarkation, in the evening (approx. 21.00 o'clock) departure towards the Baltic States. Overnight stay on board.
2nd day: Klaipeda Towards evening (approx. 18.00 hrs)
Arrival in Klaipeda (Memel) and opportunity to discover the old Memel on a walking tour. The Simon Dach Fountain with the Annie of Tharau on the Theaterplatz and the small half-timbered houses are worth a visit. Overnight stay in Klaipeda.
3rd day: Klaipeda - Silute - Trakai - Vilnius (about 350 km)
Ride to the Memelland and along the river Nemunas (Memel). On the way you will pass small towns that are not on the big tourist maps. That this was a line of defence of the Lithuanians against the Teutonic Knights for centuries can still be seen today in the castle hills and castles like Raudone. Next stop is Trakai with the castle from the 14th century. Especially in the evening it shines in a wonderful light. Daily destination is Vilnius (Wilna). The Gediminas Hill, the old university (1579), the Cathedral Square with the Cathedral and the bell tower and the St. Bernardine Church all tempt you to take a tour. The former Jewish quarters are a reminder of the Jewish heritage of the city, which was once considered the "Jerusalem of the North". Overnight stay in Vilnius.
4th day: Vilnius - Rundale - Riga (about 360 km)
It is not the big names that "adorn" today's stage, but the route itself. Small towns and villages line your way, which leads you through an unspoilt and original Baltic region. First you will visit the geographical centre of Europe, north of Vilnius. You get to Anyksciai: Railway fans enjoy the trains of the "Siaurukas", the narrow-gauge railway, at the station. Then you will reach the baroque Rundale Palace - one of the most important Latvian architectural monuments (Rundale will be renovated in 2020 and is only accessible to a limited extent). From here you continue to the Latvian capital. Overnight stay in Riga.
5th day: Riga - Gauja National Park - Tartu (about 260 km)
Before you leave for Estonia today, you should take time to visit Riga. In addition to the Schwarzhäupterhaus, the cathedral and the castle, the magnificent Art Nouveau streets in the new town are waiting to be visited. The Occupation Museum leaves moving impressions of the occupation of Latvia. Then ride to the Gauja National Park, whose landscape is dominated by the Gauja meandering through the surrounding rock. The castle of Turaida (Treyden) near Sigulda or Cesis (Wenden) with the massive castle of the order are ideal for a break. Day's destination is Tartu: the pretty university city is probably the oldest city in the Baltic countries. The Cathedral Hill with the ruins of the Cathedral Church, the University, the Angel Bridge and the Devil's Bridge, the observatory and the town hall can be explored on an evening tour. Overnight stay in Tartu.
6th day: Tartu - Lake Peipus - Lahemaa National Park - Tallinn (about 200 and 350 km)
If you want to focus on a beautiful route, you should ride from Tartu along the Peipus Lake. It forms the border with Russia. From there we go to the Lahemaa National Park on the coast. Wonderful routes! But for Tallinn, the stage finish, an evening stroll must suffice. If you prefer a shorter stage, you can ride right through the Estonian province to the Estonian capital Tallinn (then about 200 km). After your arrival you can take a walk around the medieval old town. The townscape is characterised by winding cobblestone alleys and pointed gabled merchants' houses - as befits an old Hanseatic town. The rock-solid city wall and the massive fortified towers bear witness to Tallinn's defensiveness in earlier times. Overnight stay in Tallinn.
7th day: Departure
Ferry crossing to Helsinki and embarkation, in the afternoon departure towards Germany (approx. 15.30 (Sundays) or 17.00 (Mondays to Saturdays)). Overnight stay on board.
8th day: Arrival in Lübeck-Travemünde
After a day at sea you will reach the port of Lübeck-Travemünde in the evening (approx. 21.30 hrs), where your journey ends.
