Day 2: Cali to Montenegro
We leave Cali at 8:00 AM and make our way through sugar cane plantations in the Cauca Valley. The coffee region is all shades of green and coffee and banana plantations stretch as far as the eye can see. We ride on small back roads before making our way the hotel near Montenegro.
Day 3: Montenegro to Medellin
Twisties till we drop, all day we are in tight twisties with spectacular views of the beautiful coffee region. We visit the historic village of Jerico high on a mountain top before making our way into Medellin. We dine in the popular area of El Poblado.
Day 4: Medellin to Doradal
After a nice breakfast buffet we make our way up over the mountain bowl where Medellin lays and visit a huge famous monolith rock, El Penol, in the lake district. After a hike to the top and lunch we make our way to the Magadalena River Valley and the home of Pablo Escobar’s ranch.
Day 5: Doradal to Villa de Leyva
In Doradal we stop in front of the iconic gate of Pablo Escobar’s ranch displaying his first drug trafficking plane. Then we make our way up the high mountains to the east and end in the wonderful little colonial village Villa de Leyva. It has Latin Americas biggest cobble stone square. A couple of road stretches are under construction and some gravel should be anticipated.
Day 6: Rest day in Villa de Leyva
If you prefer not to spend the day relaxing there are plenty of activities to do around Villa de Leyva. Among others – a horseback or 4×4 buggy ride into the desert, visit the beautiful waterfall or dinosaur fossil museum. The Terracota house and shopping for handicrafts in the village are something of a “must do”.
Day 7: Villa de Leyva to Honda
From Villa de Leyva we continue in the high mountains to Zipaquira where we stop to see the Salt Cathedral 300 meters underground. After lunch once again we will be in tight curves and twisties going back down into the Magdalena River Valley. Once a busy river port town, Honda has a nice little historic center and we stay a beautifully renovated colonial hotel.
Day 8: Honda to Salento
Today’s task: ride the accent of the Los Nevados del Ruiz volcano at 4200 meters altitude and descend on the other side. Many, many curves and incredible views. In clear weather we can see the snow capped volcano. We end up in the amazing coffee region for another night.
Day 9: Salento to Cali
After a great breakfast we will visit a coffee plantation and go into the Cocora Valley where the worlds tallest wax palm trees grow – an other-worldly atmosphere awaits. We’ll also visit the cosy square of Salento. After lunch we will make our way back through the Cauca Valley and arrive in Cali late afternoon. Here we return the bikes before checking in at the hotel for the last night in the salsa capital of the world – Cali.
Day 10: It is fly-out day
We will take you to the airport in time for your flight. If you wish to stay longer we are happy to help you make hotel reservations or organize flights to other national destinations. We strongly suggest visiting Cartagena for a day or two before or after the Motorcycle trip.
