Motorcycles: During this trip we ride Kibo 250 cc motorcycles, made in Kenya.
Tour character: During the trip through Kenya we do not reach considerable heights. The day tours are sometimes long, but well feasible. On the way we have time and opportunities to stop and take pictures or visit villages.
Off Road: This trip is suitable for every healthy motorcyclist, we take turns following the paved main roads and then regularly avoid narrow side roads. About one third of the route we ride on dirt roads. These routes are not very difficult to ride even without off-road experience, but off-road experience is recommended. A basic off-road training is very useful as preparation. It teaches you how to handle the bike best off-road. It will certainly increase your riding pleasure. The bikes are light and handy enduros, perfect for the unpaved roads.
Overnight stays: During this trip we will stay in comfortable hotels, resorts or a tented camp. Tents, towels and bed linen are included.
Climate: The temperature is almost the same all year round, between 25 and 30 degrees. Of course, this depends on the altitude and location where you are. From the middle/end of March to the end of May, the south-east monsoon "Kuzi" brings the "big" rainy season, during which it does not rain all the time, but the concentrated rainfall in some regions, especially in the south-east, causes flooding and impassable roads. From the middle/end of October to the beginning of December the northeast monsoon "Kazkazi" is responsible for the "small" rainy season. Travelling is possible during this time, as most earth roads are passable with a few exceptions. The ideal travel times are the dry months from December to March (hot) and from June to October (pleasant).
Clothing: A helmet is mandatory, as is protective clothing with protectors, good gloves and boots or sturdy, high shoes. Because of the heat it is recommended to wear breathable protective clothing. Because of the dust, take a good pair of goggles with you.
Travel documents: Your passport must be valid for at least another six months from the date of entry. In Kenya, German citizens require a visa. The visa fee for Kenya is 50,- US-$, visas can be applied for at the Kenyan embassies and since 01.07.2015 also online. An international driving licence is not required.
Health: The Federal Foreign Office recommends checking and completing the standard vaccinations according to the current vaccination calendar of the Robert Koch Institute for adults when travelling (see http://www.rki.de). Inform yourself in time.

Start and end of this adventurous motorcycle tour is Kenya's capital Nairobi. After arrival we will ride towards the northeast. Here is Mount Kenya, the highest mountain in the country and after Kilimanjaro in Tanzania the highest mountain in Africa. We ride west on unpaved mountain roads, pass small villages, unknown game parks and mainly take small roads to finally reach the Masai Mara National Park. In this large game park we have one day time for a 4x4 safari before we ride back to Nairobi.
This is a unique, varied and not too long motorcycle tour. We use a Kibo 250ccm as a rental motorcycle, it is perfect for this tour. There are direct flights to Nairobi.
The journey from day to day
Day 1 - Departure Germany - Nairobi
"Caribou" means welcome to Swahili! You will be met at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, named after Kenya's first president since independence. You immediately experience the lively city life of Nairobi, everything here is in motion. The population of the capital of Kenya is estimated at between 5 million and 10 million people, depending on whether the suburbs are included. The city, named after the river Nairobi, is situated at an altitude of 1800 meters, which makes the temperature very pleasant in the summer months and sometimes even quite cool at night. The city was officially founded in 1899 when the railway was completed. Today's program depends on whether you arrive in the morning or late afternoon / evening.
Day 2 - Nairobi - Nanyuki
We get up early and leave the turbulent Nairobi: our way leads us off the main roads to the north, through smaller towns and villages. The roads will be a mixture of asphalt and gravel. Soon traffic jams and skyscrapers will be behind us and village life, nature and lush hills will welcome us. We pass the Aberdare National Park and ride to Mount Kenya. The highest peak is 5199 meters. It was declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 1978. The mountain plays an important role in the culture of the local ethnic groups living there such as Kikuyu, Ameru, Embu and Masai. We stay overnight in a simple lodging at the foot of the mountain.
Day 3 - Nanyuki - Lake Baringo
Today we move mainly on gravel roads. We will ride through grassland, pass game farms and various nature reserves, and there is a unique fauna to see. Instead of zebra crossings, real zebras cross the road here! We are in a remote area, so we will provide a picnic and enough snacks and drinks along the way. Our destination today is the Baringo Lake, a paradise for bird watchers and a freshwater oasis in the middle of a desert-like landscape. There are often numerous flamingos to see and certainly crocodiles. This is the traditional home of the Njemps tribe, a unique people, which is the only herding tribe that also fishes. Our accommodation is by the lake, where we can enjoy our dinner while listening to hippos and birds. Watch out for crocodiles!
Day 4 - Lake Baringo - Nakuru
We get up early to take a boat trip on the Baringo Lake and enjoy a beautiful sunrise. Then we continue by motorbikes at around 10 am, first on asphalt for a while, but then we turn off and over gravel we ride towards Lake Bogoria. A bumpy road leads us to the western shores of the lake, where flamingos gather. About halfway up the lake, hot springs and geysers spew boiling liquids from the earth's interior. We then take a paved but quiet country road to Lake Nakuru, a lake flanked by rocky cliffs and acacia forests. Our accommodation is located between Lake Nakuru and Lake Elementaita, depending on availability.
Day 5 - Nakuru - Masai Mara
It will be another adventurous day. We're going south on the main road. Next we will explore trails that are only used by the Masai and wildlife. The landscape consists mainly of dry hills, you hardly meet people on the way, but you can admire the lively wildlife. We spend the night in a nice camp near the national park.
Day 6 - Masai Mara - 4x4Safari
The Masai Mara National Park is the direct extension of the Serengeti and forms with it a harmonious eco-area where hundreds of thousands of wildebeest, antelope and zebra migrate every year. It is scenically one of the most beautiful parks in Africa. We leave the motorcycles behind and go on a 4x4 safari. You will encounter large herds of buffalo, wildebeest, zebra and antelope. Giraffes and lions cross or walk on the road. We get up early for the morning safari and have lunch on the way. We ride until late in the evening in this beautiful game park in Kenya. Bring enough memory cards for your camera, because here it is beautiful, a real safari experience!
Day 7 - Masai Mara - Lake Naivasha
We're starting early again. In the morning there will be lots of wildlife on the way. We follow a long dirt road to reach the asphalt to Narok. Then we come back to the green highlands. We make our way to Lake Naivasha. The lake and its surroundings are full of natural riches and the fertile soil and water supply has made this region one of the most important agricultural areas in Kenya. There are many (Dutch) flower farmers here. We live near the Crescent Island Game Sanctuary, where we can walk in the late afternoon or morning.
Day 8 - Naivasha - Nairobi
At the end of the day, a varied day awaits us with a mixture of asphalt roads, spectacular scenic routes and dirt tracks towards Nairobi. We ride past Mount Suswa Conservancy and pass through the Ngong Hills Nature Reserve. The closer we get to Nairobi, the busier the traffic gets. Air pollution, traffic jams, tall buildings and people on the move. On arrival in Nairobi, a well-deserved drink awaits us to celebrate and we share our memories.
Day 9 - Nairobi - Departure
Depending on the time of your departure you will either leave very early or have time to explore Nairobi during the day. Visit the Masai market, the park or one of the main shopping malls or just relax at the hotel. You will get a transfer to the airport.
Day 10 - Arrival - Germany
Depending on the airline you arrive today.
