Itinerary:
Day 1
The Tour starts in the wonderful city of Porto.
The fun begins.
On the first part of the day, the route will take you all the way to Peso da Régua, the main city in the Douro Valley.
You will be riding on roads full of curves and twists, almost without any straight lines
After that, it’s time to ride on a part of the N2 (the longest Portuguese road) riding through the city of Vila Real.
After Vila Real, the 2nd part of the day will take you on a small back road in the middle of the vineyards.
Take your time and enjoy the view.
But don’t forget to keep an eye on the road, because it's narrow and full of harpins.
The day ends in one of the most beautiful “Quintas” of the valley, where you will enjoy a gourmet dinner in the middle of the vineyards, accompanied with a wine tasting of the wines of the “Quinta”.
Day 2
The day starts with a short ride till the small village of Pinhão (the “heart” of the Douro Valley).
Then it’s time to ride on the EN222 (considered one of the best riding roads in the world), riding through some of the picturesque villages of the region like Ervedosa do Douro.
Soon you will arrive at one of the most “dramatic” views of the region, the Valeira dam.
After that, the route will take you towards the West, entering the “Upper Douro” region, with its different climate and vegetation.
Soon you will be riding on some “MotoGp style” roads, with sweeping fast curves along the river, a true paradise for riders.
The end of the day it’s a relaxed ride, before arriving at your accommodation, a magnificent “Quinta”, where you will enjoy the flavors of the region.
Day 3
The 3rd day of the tour will take you into one of the less populated regions of Portugal, Trás-os-Montes (in literal translation: behind the hills) region.
Enjoy the landscape, while riding through deserted back roads, and passing through small “forgotten” villages.
Then the route will take you North towards the city of Bragança.
Stop at the castle for a cup of coffee, before entering the Montesinho Natural Park, one of the less visited parks in Portugal, but not the less beautiful at all!
The end of the day is a fun ride on the roads of the Park, that will take you to the hotel in the ancient roman city of Chaves
Day 4
On the 4th day of the Tour, you will start to head towards the west, entering in the only National Park of Portugal, the Peneda – Gerês!
The park is, truly, a preciousness of mother nature with natural lagoons and an explosive wildlife.
During the day you will ride along the several dams of the Park. If the weather is good, you can stop and go for a swim, to refresh yourself.
On the 2nd part of the day, you will leave the Park, and head into the region of Minho, considered the “greenest” region of Portugal.
The route will take you through some of the most traditional and ancient villages of the region. (some of them on the Santiago pilgrimage Way), before riding to Braga (the 3rd major city of Portugal and known as the archbishop’s city), and Guimarães, where a nice cozy hotel waits for you.
Day 5
The 5th day begins in the city of Guimarães, the place where Portugal was “born”, and a UNESCO World Heritage city.
After leaving Guimarães, it’s time to have fun again on the small back roads that will lead you to the Alvão National Park, with its magnificent waterfall and its twisting roads.
You will ride on one of the most thrilling roads in Portugal: the N304.
The Tour is almost coming to an end, but before its time to enjoy the twists of the Marão Mountain range, and stop at Amarante, for a well-deserved drink at a traditional location, famous for its pastry.
The last 65 kms are a relaxing ride on the highway till Porto.
