Please bring your own motorcycle clothing, including helmet. Do not forget rain suit, then it will certainly not rain. What else you should bring: A flashlight, at best a headlamp. Useful aids are a multitool or pocket knife, sunglasses on the other hand are mandatory. If you are often thirsty on the road, a water bottle or a Camelbak is a good idea.
The Yamaha XT 660 does not have saddlebags. To carry the most important utensils, a waterproof backpack or luggage roll with the appropriate fastening straps is recommended. So you can always detach everything from the motorcycle and take it with you if necessary.
Medication (diarrhea, cold and pain killers) as well as sunblock and mosquito repellent are a must in your luggage.
Foreign exchange:
The Brazilian currency is the real (BRL). As of December 2021, one euro was worth 6.40 reals. It is best to equip yourself with some small change in euros and then get the required reals from the ATM using your regular debit card or credit card, it is easiest that way. Your tour guide will take you to appropriately functioning machines.
For drinks, lunch and gasoline as well as possible tips you need about 2000 Real for the duration of your stay (without gasoline about 1300 Real). In addition, there are the expenses for souvenirs and souvenirs.

Riding skills:
A motorcycle should be safely controlled on paved roads, even in hairpin turns. Unpaved sections, gravel roads, or sometimes potholed natural road tracks should not be a problem. About 10% of the roads are not asphalted.
The flights are not included in the tour price. You can book this yourself or in the travel agency of your confidence. Please keep in mind that you book the flights only when the implementation of the trip is confirmed by us. Driver's license:
Participation in the tour requires a valid class A or A1 Driver's license. In addition to your European Driver's license, please be sure to bring your international Driver's license.
The luggage will be carried in the escort vehicle. Please do not take too much with you, the motto is: less is more. Your luggage is not insured separately, please take out luggage insurance if necessary. Your personal day luggage is best kept in a small backpack.
Enduro tank bags fit well on the XT 660 but must be brought by yourself. Magnetic tank bags do not work.
Immunizations can never hurt, especially against the various forms of hepatitis. Vaccination or booster for tetanus and polio is important in any case.
Besides medicines of personal use, remedies for stomach ailments, diarrhea, insect bites, fever, pain and colds are recommended.
The malaria pathogen has largely died out in the areas we traveled on this tour, but according to the Tropical Institute, there is a minimal risk of infection. Whether prophylaxis or not, everyone must decide for themselves, it is best to talk about it with your doctor. Good mosquito protection should therefore always be carried out, if only as a measure against possible overreactions to the "foreign" mosquito species.
In any case, it is important that you take care of your entire vaccination protection in time, so that you do not get all vaccines injected at the same time! Please also pay attention to the deadlines until the beginning of the effectiveness and inform yourself again at your doctor or in a tropical institute to be on the safe side.
Before departure, we must have the signed deposit contract. You will receive this with your travel documents about 2 weeks before departure. With this, you authorize us, in case of damage to your motorcycle up to 2,500 euros from the account or from your credit card. More details under motorcycles.
Everything you need for temperatures and motorcycling between 15 ° and 30 ° Celsius including swimming trunks. Also for the sometimes quite cold nights in the altitudes of the Serra (sometimes below 10 ° C) should be provided. Clothing should be durable for the trip. Definitely not needed are the tuxedo and the "little black dress".
Cell phones:
Triband cell phones also work in Brazil. However, calling home or having someone call you from there is immensely expensive. It is better to leave the hotel list at home and let yourself be called from there at fixed times. It is even easier to use the best and free WLAN of the hotels and make calls via the Internet.
The hotels where we stay are mostly typical of the country, often with a nice, stylish atmosphere and vary from simple to upper-middle class. Some have a special comfort or a beautiful location, the other attracts with exceptional cuisine or atmosphere, but always we are welcome as motorcyclists in the warmest way. All rooms have their own bathroom.
It is mostly sunny with daytime temperatures of 15 - 30° C, nighttime temperatures below 10° C - 25° C, depending on altitude and weather conditions. In the months of May to mid-November, the probability of rain is statistically lower, as this is the tropical dry period. There can be weather outliers in every direction. Due to the clear air, UV radiation is very high. Do not forget to bring sufficient sun protection.
Motorcycles: Yamaha XT 660
The motorcycles are only insured against liability.
In Brazil, it is generally not possible to take out comprehensive insurance for motorcycles.
In case of a total loss, a maximum of 2500 euros will be charged. These 2500 euros are to be guaranteed by a signed deposit contract before departure with us. For smaller damages the correspondingly reduced sums will be collected - minor damages can be settled more easily on-site.
The damages are guaranteed to be assessed very fairly on the spot by our tour guide. In addition, we will watch over these funds in trust. For a dent in the tank we will certainly not charge the whole tank but only the resulting loss of value or the working time for the repair, for a broken clutch lever only its material value. However, all damages, especially if they exceed a few hundred Euros, are financially unbearable even for our partners, especially since the motorcycles represent an equivalent value of over 5000 Euros and there is no insurance company in Brazil that would fully ensure these motorcycles. The entire risk above the 2500 Euro is therefore borne by our partner in Brazil. In the worst case, our local partner would have a loss of more than 2500 Euro in case of a total loss. Therefore, we ask for your understanding of this measure of insurance.
The XTs we use certainly trade at much lower prices in Germany. But Brazil is not Germany. And in Brazil, XT 660s, even the older models, are still traded very high. On the one hand, this is due to the high import duty of 50% on every imported vehicle, and on the other hand, because in Brazil the XT 660 is a very fine and sought-after motorcycle. This is also ensured by our mechanics on the trip.
In this context, it is absolutely important that the deductible in the amount of the deposit must also be borne by the renter/rider of the motorcycle for damage that is not their fault, for example, due to an accident with a third party.
This is because Brazil has a so-called No-Fault system, in which everyone bears their own material damage. Only personal injuries to third parties are minimally insured.
Road Conditions:
More than 70% of the roads are relatively well paved and narrow, sometimes dizzying mountain passes. In between, sometimes older asphalt surfaces are in an advanced state of decay. The natural roads are usually in very good condition and are quite easy to ride on. However, it is important to always ride with enough foresight and accordingly carefully. Some enduro experience or even a little more can not hurt, of course. In any case, natural roads should not be a problem in principle. However, since this tour is only about 250 km of these roads, even inexperienced riders can easily master them.
But even on the well-built country roads, you should always be prepared for occasional potholes, bumps, or sand in the curves.
Daily routine:
Normally a travel day begins at 8 o'clock in the morning with breakfast. At around 9 a.m., after a short briefing by the tour guide, we will set off on the daily stages of varying lengths. Lunch and breather breaks will of course not be missing.
The sensible insurances to be taken out have already been mentioned under the respective headings. However, it is very important in this context that they should definitely have good international health insurance for this event.

All of Brazil's wonderful beauty in one tour. From pretty colonial towns through the deep green jungle along the paradisiacal coast to the most beautiful in the whole country. Starting from the former capital Rio de Janeiro, this eventful tour leads through the three states Sao Paulo, Minas Gerais, and Rio de Janeiro. And deep into the early days of Brazilian colonization. Back when the Portuguese provided the viceroy, exploited the mines, and shipped everything to the Old World via Rio de Janeiro.

It was then that many of today's gems were created, well-preserved original towns, finely dressed up with colorful colonial architecture. But also the landscapes between them can inspire, it goes through various mountains with steep granite needles rising from the jungle into the sky and giant dark gray monoliths, which stand in contrast to the deep green jungle. Of course, if there are mountains, there are also many curves. So there's no shortage of riding fun on the trip through the three provinces. Experience history, culture, and tropical landscapes on two wheels.

Rio is the city around which everything revolves in Brazil. Capital of samba, the stronghold of carnival, the epicenter of good humor. Here you can find the most famous beaches, the hottest samba rhythms, and the most beautiful girls. Via the fashionable seaside resort of Búzios, we first head for Ouro Preto, the city of "black gold". At least the church, decorated with over 400 kilograms of precious metal, should be visited before the next exciting day's ride into the mountains of Minas Gerais and beyond.

Tropical jungle with swarms of hummingbirds nibbling on sugar cones hovering in front of the hotel, as well as large banana-eating toucans, can be seen a few days and great mountain trails later in the jungle of the Itatiaia Nature Reserve. On a short hike with a ranger through the rainforest, you can discover many more animals that you would not recognize alone. A special experience.



Day 1: Arrive and relax - just no stress

Arrival in Rio de Janeiro. From there we take our shuttle bus to the neighboring city of Niterói. On the way there we ride over a gigantic bridge, which spans Guanabara Bay with a length of almost 14 km. Directly from the beach in front of our small hotel in Niterói, we can see Rio de Janeiro's most famous attractions from a distance. The legendary Sugar Loaf Mountain and the world-famous Jesus statue Corcovado greet us across the bay. And already show us the destination of our trip. Exactly up there we will stand after 13 exciting days on the motorcycle at the end of our Rio round trip.

Besides the beautiful beaches, there is the Natural History Museum to visit in Niterói, which was designed by the famous architect Oskar Niemeyer and reminds us of a flying saucer. Who still has enough desire and energy, can go on a small excursion (also with the motorcycles or alternatively with our minibus) to this museum or look at the city a little bit. Depending on the gusto also from the perspective of a small vantage point above the city.

Day 2: from Niteroí to Búzios - the Saint Tropez of the Brazilians

Today we start our motorcycle tour. We ride in the northern direction and still stay within the state of Rio de Janeiro. Along the beautiful beaches, such as Arraial do Cabo, we ride for kilometers always along the shore of the approaching Atlantic Ocean. The spray is a constant companion and salty to the face and lips. But the taste could also come from the sweat that it costs us to conquer this unpaved stretch of road.

Our destination for the day, Armação de Búzios, is one of the most famous tourist spots in all of Brazil, with fantastic restaurants and many cozy pubs, as well as a shopping mile that could also be in Cannes or Saint Tropez. Only that here the tourists are almost exclusively Brazilians. We spend the night in a typical, cozy pousada.

Day 3: High up to the summer resort of the king

From Búzios, after a short stage, we continue north along the coast directly into the scenic mountainous regions of Rio de Janeiro. We reach our destination of the day, Petrópolis, on beautifully curved, well-paved roads through a surprisingly impressive mountain landscape, the Serra dos Órgãos (the so-called Organ Mountains). The towns are located between 800 and 910 meters high and therefore have a particularly pleasant climate. Petrópolis was founded in 1845 by German immigrants and offers many historical sights. Not least because of the good air, the place was once chosen by the Brazilian King Pedro the II as a summer resort. We spend the night in a city hotel and stroll a little through this - for Brazilian standards - quiet city before dinner.

Day 4: Rest in a climatic health resort

Sightseeing of the city with its historical monuments and buildings. You can visit the Royal Palace (built between 1845 - 1864) of the first Brazilian king, the Crystal Palace of 1884, made entirely of glass, or the main cathedral with its Gothic touch. Later in the day, there may be an opportunity for a short motorcycle tour of the surrounding area.

Day 5: Mountains, valleys, dense forests - overnight stay in the middle of it all

Today we leave the state of Rio de Janeiro for Minas Gerais. Here we will get to know a completely different culture and way of life. Most people associate Rio with the colorful celebrations at Carnival, the scantily clad pretty women on the white beaches of Copacabana, and the generally very exuberant way of life. The state of Minas Gerais is quite different. Even the name, which refers to many of the metal and rock mines located in this region, indicates that this state is more about working than partying. For years under Portuguese rule, this state was the treasury of the country and was rigorously exploited. Including the people, mostly slaves of African origin and later also simple workers, who often died at the age of thirty because of the unimaginably hard work and the bad air underground.

Above ground, however, Minas Gerais also has a lot of beautiful landscapes to offer. In the high mountains covered with dense jungle, we are often far away from civilization. Here, pure nature still prevails, especially in the National Park do Ibitipoca. On beautiful winding roads, we surf along the mountain slopes to the highest viewpoint "Mirante Alta", from where we enjoy a wonderful view over the mountains, valleys, and forests. In this beautiful natural park, we will stay overnight. From our small chalets, located in the middle of the forest, we can observe animals and birds. And look forward to a very quiet night.

Day 6: Towards the black gold

After this pleasantly quiet night away from the noise of the big city, we continue into the interior of Brazil, more precisely to Ouro Preto (Black Gold), which was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1980 because of the original buildings from the colonial era and not least because of the many magnificent churches.

Day 7: Ouro Preto - a colonial jewel

Ouro Preto was founded in 1699 and became famous early on for its rich gold, silver, and diamond mines. Several museums, magnificent mansions in colonial style, many sublime churches, such as the church "Nossa Senhora do Pilar", are among the important sights. The almost completely gilded nave of the church, the altar, and various sculptures are covered with a total of over 450 kilograms of gold.

In earlier times, there was an abundance of gold here, which was primarily mined by African slaves. Some museums recall the history of the construction of Brazil and the people who made history here. One of them was Tiradentes, who fought for the liberation of Brazil from Portugal and was eventually beheaded for it. However, as we all know, it worked out. So he became a national hero post mortem.

Day 8: Further and further into the "Interior

From Ouro Preto we continue towards "Caxambú". The area is known for its thermal springs and its excellent mineral water. For this reason, this region is also called "Circuito das Águas", the "Water Circle". We will spend the night in a beautiful Fazenda surrounded by nature.

Day 9: Serra da Mantiqueira and the Mata Atlântica - Overnight stay in the National Park Itatiaia

We leave Minas Gerais and return to the state of Rio de Janeiro. In the Serra da Mantiqueira, the name of the fantastic mountain range that we will cross, magnificent curves are guaranteed. Most of the time, the meandering roads lead through the so-called "Mata Atlântica", the Atlantic Rainforest. From the road, you can already see that you can't even get two meters into this impenetrable thicket without a machete.

Today's stage is only short with 145 km to the "Parque Nacional de Itatiaia". In this natural paradise, a spectacular view of the entire national park and a lake far below in the valley awaits us.

Early arrival at our hotel in the middle of the national park is therefore advantageous. In addition, there will be the opportunity for a short hike to a waterfall with a crystal clear lake, surrounded by dense Brazilian jungle, followed by a refreshing swim or a jump into the light blue pool of the hotel.

From the hotel, you also have a beautiful view of one of the highest mountains in Brazil, the "Pico das Agulhas Negras" with an altitude of 2,791 meters.

The hotel itself is a small oasis. Dozens of buzzing hummingbirds and ravenous toucans are attracted to the restaurant terrace by "feeding cribs". This colorful hustle and bustle in close proximity can keep the observer spellbound for hours. In addition, small cute chipmunks cavort, which take the peanuts from your hands or even get them from your shoulder. If you are particularly observant and lucky, you may even spot the little monkeys in the trees.

Day 10: From the jungle to the coast - to Parati

It goes downhill - towards the coast. But first, we have to overcome the "Sierra do Mar", the coastal mountains. On wonderful motorcycle routes with beautiful views, we cross this green hilly landscape, which is so lovely that it even reminds us of some places of the idyllic Allgäu. Black pied cows on lush green pastures, you can't help but be amazed. And on the ridge road, you can enjoy this wonderful view on both sides.

A short time later, the fantastic view of the "Costa Verde", the green coast, with its many beach-lined bays and offshore islets, opens up. It's hard to tear yourself away again. The little road that snakes its way down to the coast from here is indeed a little adventure itself. After this exciting roller coaster ride, we continue along the "green coast" until we reach the beautiful colonial town of Parati. Here another world opens up, where the past comes alive. We stay two nights in this picturesque little town.

Day 11: Parati - colonial heritage

Parati has excellent sandy beaches as well as many small offshore islands, but is one of the most beautiful historic towns in Brazil, especially because of its well-preserved colonial buildings. Here we can take a leisurely cruise on an old schooner (two-master), go diving in the crystal clear waters of the pleasantly warm South Atlantic, stroll through the romantic little town, or just lie on our lazy skin - at the hotel pool or in the warm sand on the beach.

Day 12: Back to the time of slavery

We continue our journey on the once royal ways of the Portuguese colony of Brazil. Today we will get to know another important building block of Brazil's history. From the 17th to the 19th century, Brazil was the most important coffee producer in the world. Here, in the so-called Valley of Coffee, many coffee barons produced most of the export hit on their huge plantations. This also opens another dark chapter in Brazil's history, that of slavery. Because all the hard physical work here was done by slaves who were brought over from Africa, especially for this purpose. It is estimated that 5.5 million slaves have been brought to Brazil since the 16th century.

To learn a little more about this, our route today takes us to the historic town of Barra do Piraí. We will spend the night in style at one of these Fazendas, whose main house now serves as a hotel and in some parts still stands exactly as it did 250 years ago, including the old original furniture. But don't worry, the mattresses are a bit more modern...

Day 13: ...and back to the beginning - shortly before Rio

Our journey began in Rio and will end here again. Today we are drawn back to the beautiful Atlantic Ocean. We will meet it again, near the famous town of Angra dos Reis, whose bay is full of small paradise islands. They say there is one of them for each day, They can be reached by boat from Angra dos Reis.

We follow the coast northward in the direction of the sun (!) and reach the southern edge of the city of millions. Here begin the beautiful beaches of the city, which are ,besides the two most famous representatives, Copacabana and Ipanema so: Praia de Grumari, Prainha, Praia da Macumba e Recreio dos Bandeirantes. Our destination Barra da Tijuca is a quiet suburb at the gates of Rio, this side of the hustle and bustle of the big city.

Here you can have some more good times. The beaches are in no way inferior to the beauty of the city, and even better, they are surrounded by green hills and forests instead of concrete and skyscrapers. In short, an ideal location to end a beautiful trip in style.

Day 14: Rio de Janeiro, the most beautiful in the country

After breakfast together, the last part of the trip begins. A city tour of Rio de Janeiro to briefly get to know this famous beauty. From now on we will continue without a motorcycle, so we will organize the city tours and experiences with the help of a specialized agency that will pick us up from our hotel. From here it is 20 kilometers to Copacabana, 25 to Sugarloaf Mountain, and 30 to the city center. We will definitely visit those highlights, along with the Cristo Redentor on Corcovado today.

In the evening we will go to a dignified Churrasqueria with many delicious specialties of Brazilian cuisine.


Day 15: Back home or extension in Rio...

The official part of the trip ends with the last breakfast together.

You can extend your stay here to get to know Rio de Janeiro better according to your own taste. Since you are independent for further planning, a shift to a hotel in the city or directly at the Copacabana is also possible. Of course, we are happy to assist you in planning and booking a possible individual extension.
