| During this trip we ride on Honda 230 / 250 ccm or equivalent motorcycles. In the event of damage to the vehicle caused by own fault, the material costs must be borne by the party responsible. Seat height approx. 86-88 cm. In Sri Lanka, left-hand traffic prevails. |
| Tour character: |
| During this tour, we will not ride to significant heights and also not through very deserted areas. We ride on light motorcycles on both well-maintained roads and secondary roads with not always good asphalt and some gravel and forest tracks. Offroad experience is therefore recommended. An off-road basic training is very useful as preparation. This is because you learn how to handle the bike best off-road. The daily stages are not long, which gives the opportunity to visit or photograph different villages on the way. One inconvenience is perhaps the traffic density in and around the cities. Every day many motorcycles, scooters, tuktuks and bicycles make their way through the streets. On the main road (which we try to avoid if possible) take into account the trucks, because the traffic rules are mostly hidden from European eyes. We will ride a third of a third of unpaved roads for about 3 days. |
| Clothing: |
| A helmet is mandatory, as is protective clothing with protectors, good gloves and boots or sturdy shoes. Especially in spring and autumn it can get very warm in the lower regions. We therefore recommend wearing breathable protective clothing. On the higher parts in the mountains you can wear extra warm clothes under your motorcycle clothing if necessary. Because of the dust, it is advisable to have a pair of goggles with you. We plan our trips before or after the monsoon season. Nevertheless we have to expect short rain showers at any time. Finally, temperatures in the mountain regions can drop to 5 C in winter, so it is advisable to bring warm clothing. |

| You need a passport that is valid for 6 months after the date of return. German citizens need a visa to enter Sri Lanka. The visa must be applied for in advance as an "Electronic Travel Authorization" (ETA) in the online procedure at www.eta.gov.lk, costs 35,- USD. For this trip you will need a valid International Driving License and a 'Sri Lankan driving permit' which we will organize for you. |

Our Sri Lanka motorcycle tour takes you to the most important cultural sights and offers many scenic highlights.
We take our 250 cc Honda's all kinds of small roads through the hinterland, over mountains and along bright green tea plantations and rice fields, through towns and small villages where we often stop on the way to enjoy the wonderful food the country has to offer.
Discover the colourful temples, old Singhalese royal cities like Polonnaruwa, the legendary Lion Rock in Sigiriya and Kandy with one of the most important Buddhareliquies, the Holy Tooth and enjoy the hospitality of the people.
A motorcycle trip to Sri Lanka guarantees a colourful variety.

Day 1 - Arrival in Colombo, continuation to Negombo
Individual journey to Colombo. After about half an hour of driving we reach the coastal town of Negombo, where we spend our first night. On the beach you can watch the fishermen catching their catch and preparing it for trade. The trademark of Negombo are the outrigger boats with their brown sails, called Oruwa.
Day 2 - NEGOMBO - ANURADHAPURA
From Negombo we start first in northern direction, then we turn inland. We continue through the flat dry zone of the island where the National Park Wilpattu is located. Anuradhapura was formerly the capital of Sri Lanka. The many temples and huge stupas (dagobas) bear witness to the long and mainly religious history of this city. There is a hustle and bustle at the holy Bodhi tree, as pilgrims make sacrifices here.
Day 3 - ANURADHAPURA - TRINCOMALEE/NILAWELI
Before breakfast we visit the big stupa of Anuradapura. With 103 meters it is the biggest in Sri Lanka. In the early hours we see the Buddhist pilgrims at their ceremonies. After breakfast we always head east. Our day's destination is the port city of Trincomalee, situated on a peninsula, and the sea! Vanakkam - this is how you are welcomed in the Tamil culture.
Day 4 - TRINCOMALEE/NILAWELI - REMAINING
Today is our first rest day, but we don't get bored. A visit to Pigeon Island for snorkeling or diving is worthwhile. For culture lovers we visit the colourful Hindu temple Koneswaram, where numerous divine statues and a huge golden statue of Shiva decorate the sanctuary. Due to its unique location, the view from the rock Swami offers a beautiful view along the coast with postcard flair. The fishermen come back from their tour in the morning and it is lively. In the afternoon you can swim, enjoy the beach and the peace and quiet or take a short motorcycle tour along the coast.
Day 5 - TRINCOMALEE/NILAWELI - SIGIRIYA
Today the first off-road track is scheduled. It continues through the hot dry zone of the country, along artificially created reservoirs in the direction of Sigiria. Today we reach the so-called "cultural triangle" of Sri Lanka. In Sigirya, in the middle of the green jungle, the Lion Rock rises up out of the lion jungle, a massive monolith 200 meters high. Here once lay the hidden kingdom of King Kassapa. Today some ruins, world-famous frescoes and the mirror wall remind us of the former wealth. In the evening we can climb Piturangala, a bizarre rock formation, and enjoy the sunset over an enchanting landscape and the famous Lion Rock.
Day 6 - SIGIRIYA - KNUCKLES MOUNTAINS
We're moving to the high country. In the Knuckels Mountains we enjoy the peace and cooler temperatures. We ride along the oppressive winding road and enjoy the adventurous ride deeper and deeper into the mountains.
Day 7 - KNUCKLES MOUNTAINS - CANDY
The way to Kandy is not far, but it is so beautiful here that we choose the most spectacular route and not the fastest. Kandy, which is idyllically situated at 500 m above sea level on a lake, has a moderate climate. In Kandy you can visit the famous tooth temple. According to tradition, Buddha's left canine tooth is kept here as a relic. Twice a day you can witness a puja ceremony, where the golden tooth is shown to the public and flowers are sacrificed by believers.
Day 8- KANDY - NUWARA ELIYA
The winding route leads through the picturesque southern highlands. Tea plantations with colourfully dressed tea pickers characterise the landscape. Today Sri Lanka is still one of the largest tea producers in the world. Upon arrival it becomes clear why Nuwara Eliya is also called 'Little England' - the buildings offer a typical English atmosphere. The mountainous area lies at an altitude of 2,000 m and is much fresher than the rest of the country.
Day 9 - NUWARA ELIYA - ELLA
We follow our way further through the highlands. The landscape consists of tropical jungle and tea plantations, which shimmer in all shades of green. We pass worlds end road and the Hor¬ton-Plains National Park. This hilly plateau at an altitude of 2100 to 2300 meters is called a "super biodiversity hotspot" because of its rich biodiversity. Many of the species existing here are endemic. The Central Highlands were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List on 31 July 2010. We come to the most famous place in the Uva tea-growing area, which owes its rise to the colonial merchant Thomas Lipton, who entered the tea business here.
Day 10 - ELLA - REST DAY
The popular mountain village of Ella and its surroundings with the impressive view through Ella Gap provide an oasis of well-being from the moment you arrive. Near the gorge we come across raging waterfalls. Numerous excursion destinations are within day trip range. In any case, there are exciting mountain paths that we can discover. It is possible to visit a spice plantation and a tea factory or climb Little Adam's Peak.
Day 11 - ELLA - RATNAPURA
Today we only ride on tarred roads, but quiet winding roads off the main roads. Ratnapura is located on the southern edge of the Sri Lankan Highlands. Situated on the banks of the river Kalu, Ratnapura is the most important gemstone centre in the country. The tropical rainforest climate has a rich vegetative diversity.
Day 12 - RATNAPURA - NEGOMBO
On our last day of riding we leave the highlands behind us and head back towards the west coast. We will avoid the big roads, but still notice that the traffic is increasing. We have to concentrate on riding once again. Arriving in Negombo we can toast to the wonderful journey at sunset and enjoy our last evening together.
Day 13 - NEGOMBO - DEPARTURE
You will get a transfer to the airport and fly back to Germany with endless impressions.
EXTENSION: RECREATION ON THE BEACH
At the end of your round trip you can relax a few more days on one of the white sandy beaches in Sri Lanka.
