Description

The Scottish Highlands with their lonely roads and the wonderful panorama are a great area for a motorcycle trip. Here the way is the goal ... The rugged landscape, interrupted again and again by small and large lochs, the rocky outcrops overgrown with mosses and heather, the play of colors in nature and, last but not least, the rugged coastline provides landscape impressions of a special kind. Defiant castles, ruins, and rustic villages complete the picture. Get to know Scotland from its most beautiful, perhaps its most typical side.

-

Tour character:

A motorcycle tour over a total of almost 1,700 km - the emphasis is on the riding experience. Two longer stages of more than 300 km require a bit of sitting, but in the Highlands, the way is the goal and the partly winding roads are quite sparsely traveled. You'll explore the northern and western Highlands from your hotel in Inverness, which saves you the daily packing of suitcases.

-

Highlights:

- Motorcycle tour on your own bike

- Scotland for those in a hurry

- winding and wide roads

- Highland day tours from fixed quarters

- lively Edinburgh & Highland capital Inverness

-

Tour itinerary:

Day 1: Arrival

Individual arrival to the ferry port of Amsterdam (Ijmuiden), embarkation, and departure (approx. 17:30) towards Great Britain. Overnight stay on board.

-

Day 2: Newcastle - Edinburgh (approx. 210 km)

Arrival in Newcastle in the morning (approx. 9.15 am). If you like, you can explore the cathedral, the remains of the old city wall, the interesting Gateshead Millennium Bridge, and the High-Level Bridge. Then your round trip through the vastness of Scotland begins. On the way to Edinburgh, you will take a short detour to Alnwick Castle, which was used as a filming location for the Harry Potter films. You ride on through the vast landscape of Northumberland to Edinburgh. Edinburgh has been the capital of Scotland since the 15th century and is a lively metropolis with a population of almost 500,000. Edinburgh Castle towers high above the city and offers breathtaking views. Overnight stay in Edinburgh.

-

Day 3: Edinburgh - Elgin - Inverness (approx. 320 km)

Today your route takes you further into the north of Scotland. Via Perth you will reach the Cairngorms National Park. The mountain landscape with its lochs, moorland, and heathland gives a first impression of the loneliness in the Scottish Highlands, which you have now reached. A detour will take you to Elgin, where Macbeth killed his cousin, Scottish King Duncan I, in 1040. The ruins of the cathedral are well worth a stop. Your destination for the day is Inverness, the capital of the Highlands. Overnight in Inverness.

-

Day 4: Western Highlands (approx. 260 km)

Today's tour takes you through the Highlands and to Eilean Donan Castle on Loch Duich. The castle, which is built on a small headland, appears picturesque and defiant at the same time. Not without reason, the structure has served as a backdrop for many films - not least Braveheart, Rob Roy, and Highlander. Along the shores of Loch Duich and Loch Cluanie, you will ride to Fort Augustus and follow the northern shore of Loch Ness back to Inverness. Overnight stay in Inverness.

-

Day 5: Northern Highlands (approx. 380 km)

Today the way is the goal and so you set off for a great Highland round. Via the towns of Lairg and Tongue, you continue northwards, passing lakes and accompanied by a beautiful mountain panorama. Enjoy the solitude on the roads of the Highlands! The vastness of the barren landscape, which is repeatedly interrupted by small and large bodies of water, and the play of colors in nature are fascinating. With Durness, you reach one of the northernmost points of the British Isle and your view can wander over the Atlantic. Via the western route, in parts along the coast, you will return to Inverness. Overnight stay in Inverness.

-

Day 6: Southern Highlands & Glasgow (approx. 270 - 370 km)

From Inverness, you will ride - among others through the fabulous Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park - to Glasgow. There are several route options for this day, the choice is yours! The climate becomes milder again, and the landscape is less barren. With Glasgow, you reach the largest city in Scotland. Glasgow has experienced periods of prosperity, such as the Industrial Revolution, but also periods of decline. Get to know the city on a sightseeing tour on your own: The cathedral, the old carpet factory, the main university building, the old St. Enoch railroad station, ... Glasgow has several interesting buildings to offer. Overnight in Glasgow.

-

Day 7: Departure

Today you will ride back to Newcastle (approx. 250 km). Your route takes you via Carlisle to Hardrian's Wall, the northern frontier of the Roman Empire. Embarkation and departure (approx. 17.00 hrs) towards Amsterdam. Overnight stay on board.

-

Day 8: Arrival in Amsterdam

In the morning (approx. 9.45 a.m.) arrival in Amsterdam (Ijmuiden) and individual journey home.
