Description

The Emerald Isle is famous for the "forty shades of green", the 40 different types of green. Johnny Cash sang about this back in the 1960s ... and yet the expression is much older. Ireland's lush vegetation, favored by the mild climate, appears in many beautiful shades of green. Discover Ireland and its "forty shades of green"! Plenty of narrow and quiet roads make a motorcycle tour through Ireland a pleasure. Not to mention the nature, the many exciting "outdoor" sights, the hospitable Irish, and the cozy pubs. Park-like landscapes alternate with barren mountain ridges and rugged coastlines, white sandy beaches with breathtaking cliffs.

-

Tour character:

A tour of Ireland on your own motorcycle! Two longer stages take you through Great Britain on the way there and back. In Ireland itself, however, things are more relaxed: manageable daily stages of 170 to 270 km and two-day trips without luggage make this motorcycle tour a comfortable journey with time for individual detours. You generally ride on asphalted roads and secondary roads. Total mileage approx. 2,100 km.

If you like, you can extend the tour by one night in Dublin.

-

Highlights:

- compact Ireland tour with your own motorcycle

- with GPS data and roadbook

- incl. all ferry passages

- Day trips without luggage: Connemara and "Ring of Kerry"

- Natural spectacle: Burren and Cliffs of Moher

-

Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrival

Individual arrival at the ferry port of Rotterdam, embarkation, and departure (approx. 21.00 hrs) in the direction of Hull in Great Britain. Overnight stay on board.

-

Day 2: Hull - Snowdonia (approx. 350 km)

Arrival in Hull in the morning (approx. 8.00 am). You will then travel across Great Britain to the Snowdonia region on the Welsh coast. If you like, use the time for a detour through the Snowdonia National Park. Overnight stay in Conway, Caernarfon, or the surrounding area.

-

Day 3: Snowdonia - Holyhead - Dublin - Galway (approx. 250 km + ferry passage Holyhead - Dublin)

You travel to Holyhead and take the ferry to Dublin (departure approx. 10.40/11.10 hrs depending on the day of the week), which you reach around midday (approx. 13/13.30 hrs). If you wish, you can now spend a little time in the Irish capital, but you will also have plenty of time to do so at the end of the trip. Because the most beautiful routes in Ireland are waiting for you! You travel through the tranquil Midlands to Galway in the west of Ireland. You can still feel the Spanish influence in Galway, as the city had trade relations with Spain for a long time. The Spanish Arch, an archway in the city wall, and the Spanish Parade, where the wealthy merchants promenaded with their families, are witnesses to this era. Overnight stay in/near Galway.

-

Day 4: Connemara (approx. 210 km)

Tour through Connemara - one of the wildest and most romantic landscapes in Ireland. Sheep and lonely cottages dominate the landscape. You ride past the Twelve Bens mountain range and into the tranquil village of Clifden. From here you head to Kylemore Abbey. The beautiful monastery is situated on Lake Pollacappul - with the mountain ranges in the background, the scenery is magnificent. Continue to the only fjord in Ireland, Killary Harbour. In the picturesque village of Leenane, stop off at the cozy pub, which also served as a backdrop in the feature film "The Fields". Overnight stay in/near Galway.

-

Day 5: Galway - Burren - Cliffs of Moher - Ennis (approx. 130 or 250 km)

Today you ride into County Kerry - passing two scenic highlights on the way. You reach the Cliffs of Moher, which plunge over 200 meters vertically into the Atlantic. A unique sight! In the immediate vicinity is the vast Burren karst region: a seemingly endless, treeless landscape of limestone. If you like, take a detour to Loop Head - a fantastic coastal panorama! Overnight stay in/near Ennis.

-

Day 6: Ennis - Dingle Peninsula - Killarney - Kenmare (approx. 320 or 330 km)

Via Bunratty and Limerick (if you like, you can take a shortcut and cross the River Shannon on a small ferry) you head south to the Dingle Peninsula, which you should take in on the spectacular tour of the peninsula. The coastal road leads to the cliffs of Slea Head, the Gallerus Oratory, and the colorful fishing village of Dingle. Dingle is already located in the Gaelic-speaking area of Ireland, the so-called Gaeltacht. Here, many locals - mainly older people - still speak the Irish language, which has been almost completely replaced by English. Dingle is also known for its lively music scene. Continue in the direction of Killarney. A visit to Muckross Manor, situated between two lakes, with its partly original Victorian furnishings, is a fascinating experience. Continue to Kenmare, the base for exploring the two spectacular peninsulas of Iveragh and Beara. Overnight stay in/near Kenmare or Sneem.

-

Day 7: Iveragh Peninsula & Ring of Kerry (approx. 200 km)

The Iveragh Peninsula is on the program today! The Ring of Kerry is Ireland's most famous scenic road, running between the Atlantic Ocean and Ireland's highest mountains, the Mcgillycuddy Reeks. The Ring offers incomparable views and it is always worth taking a detour. The picturesque village of Sneem is worth a stop and a short stroll through the center. The Staigue Stone Fort is a ring fort that is at least 2,000 years old. You can reach it via a small side road. A little off the Ring of Kerry, the Skellig Coast Road takes you to the far west of the peninsula and finally to the small port of Portmagee. Overnight stay in/near Kenmare or Sneem.

-

Day 8: Kenmare - Rock of Cashel - Kilkenny (approx. 230 km)

From Kenmare, you ride to Cashel with the famous "Rock of Cashel", which plays a prominent role in the history of Ireland - in the truest sense of the word. The ruins of important buildings from different eras are gathered together in a very small area. The ruins of Hore Abbey (13th century) lie picturesquely overlooking the plain. Your destination for the day is Kilkenny with Kilkenny Castle. Overnight stay in/near Kilkenny.

-

Day 9: Kilkenny - Wicklow Mountains - Dublin (approx. 160 km)

For the last stage you follow a really beautiful route through the "Garden of Ireland", the Wicklow Mountains. Highlights include the early Christian monastery district of Glendalough, the ride along the old military road, and the huge park of Powerscourt House. Then continue to the Irish capital. Dublin, Baile Átha Cliath in Irish, is a city with history, but also a modern and vibrant metropolis. Important stops include Trinity College with the famous "Book of Kells", the elegant Georgian houses, Christ Church, and St. Patrick's Cathedral. O'Connell Street stretches to the north of Dublin with prestigious buildings such as the Post Office. If you want to learn more about Irish whiskey, visit the Jameson Experience Center. You can round off the evening in a pub in the Temple Bar district. Overnight stay in Dublin.

-

Day 10: Departure

In the morning (depending on the day of the week approx. 07.30/08.00 hrs) you take the ferry from Dublin to Holyhead in Wales (arrival approx. 09.45/10.15 hrs) and ride back to Hull (approx. 350 km). Embarkation and departure (approx. 20.30 hrs) to Rotterdam. Overnight stay on board.

-

Day 11: Arrival in Rotterdam

In the morning (approx. 9.00 a.m.) you arrive in Rotterdam, where your journey ends.
