Description
This is because many of the emigrants who headed west also drove it back. It crosses 3 time zones in 8 states of the USA. The old pioneers of the West planned and built this road already in 1926. In 1932 it was finally completely paved. The 50's were the glory days of Route 66, when thousands of cars drove bumper to bumper to experience the adventure "West". Hotels, motels, gas stations, classic restaurants and the new mobile America was everywhere. Many of the classic routes, restaurants, gas stations and historic landmarks are restored and in original condition as they were in the 1950s. Unique and nostalgic, Route 66 is the road someone in heaven created for Harley-Davidson® riders.
Tour overview from Los Angeles to Chicago:
Day 01: Flight to Los Angeles
Flight with a renowned scheduled airline from your chosen departure point to Los Angeles (connecting flights are possible). Upon arrival in Los Angeles, the shuttle transfer will take you to a well-located mid-range hotel near the airport. The rest of the day is at your leisure. Overnight stay in the Los Angeles/LAX area.
Day 02: Los Angeles
Today you have the day at your leisure. In the morning you have the opportunity to participate in a guided city tour with a local guide (optional, advance booking required). You will be picked up from the hotel by van or bus and start your city tour to Venice Beach, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, Downtown L.A. and Hollywood. In the afternoon the tour briefing will take place and you will be transferred to the rental station where you will pick up your machines. Overnight stay in the Los Angeles/LAX area.

Day 03: Highway 1 - Topanga Canyon - San Gabriel Mountains, 310 km
In the morning you will leave Los Angeles to start your tour adventure "Route 66 - the Mother Road". The luggage you need for the tour will be packed into the escort vehicle and you will head north on the famous coastal road, Highway 1 and 101. You will pass Santa Monica again, which marks the beginning or end of Route 66, before turning off to ride through Topanga Canyon. The following stretch through the San Gabriel Mountains leads you to Highway 2, which is over 90 km long and winds over mountains and through canyons. This also has the nickname "Angels Crest Highway" and is one of the "Top 5 Motorcycle Routes" in America. Afterwards you will cross Route 66 and reach Barstow, the end point of your tour today. Overnight stay in Barstow.
Day 04: Route 66 - Roy's Cafe - Hoover Dam - Las Vegas, 430 km
After breakfast you will ride through the Mojave Desert back to the old Route 66. An obligatory stop at the Bagdad Cafe, known from the movie "Out of Rosenheim" and at Roy's Cafe in Amboy is a must. Passing Essex and Goffs we continue towards Hoover Dam. From the Lake Mead lookout and the new bridge you have an excellent view of this technical wonder. In the late afternoon you will reach the gambler's paradise in the desert, the glittering city of Las Vegas. In the evening, simply visit the numerous hotel attractions, go shopping or take a visit to the observation deck of the 350 m high Stratosphere Tower to get an overview of the city. Overnight stay in Las Vegas.
TOUR TIP: You can end the day with a leisurely dinner together and then, like the movie stars, be chauffeured on an optional stretch limousine tour along the Strip and into the Old Town of Las Vegas.
Day 05: Las Vegas - Day at leisure
The day is at your free disposal in Las Vegas. Your guide will be happy to assist you with show tickets, helicopter rides and all other attractions. On site you have the opportunity to visit the local Harley-Davidson® dealer and the adjacent outlet shopping mall. For the gluttonous riders, a day tour, on your own, to the Valley of Fire or Mt. Charleston is an option. Overnight stay in Las Vegas.
Day 06: Oatman - Kingman - Seligman - Williams, 450 km
In the morning you will leave Nevada heading south, where you will soon reach the town of Laughlin, on the Colorado River. After a short photo stop, you will enter the state of Arizona and head back towards Route 66. Along the way you will see several small western towns, such as Oatman, which is always a stopover for many Harley riders. Real cowboys, gold prospectors and wild burros evoke memories of the Wild West. Sitgreaves Pass and Cool Springs are on your way, as well as the historic General Store in Hackberry. You'll cross the Hualapai Indian Reservation and catch your first glimpse of the western rim of the Grand Canyon. In the small town of Seligman you will visit Angel Delgadillo, probably the most famous barber in the world, who is one of the founders of the Route 66 Association and is considered the father of today's Route 66. The end point of your today's stage is the small town Williams, which still has a lot of the "Good Old West" with its historic houses and the old entertainment district directly at the Motherroad. You will spend the night almost directly on Route 66 and in the evening you will have the opportunity to visit a brewery followed by dinner.
Day 07: Grand Canyon, 360 km
In the morning you start your tour day from Williams to one of the seven wonders of the world. There you will first have the opportunity to take an almost one-hour helicopter tour of the breathtaking canyon. Then you follow the scenic road along the south rim of the Grand Canyon. Here you will find interesting stops like Duck Rock, Grand View, Lipan Point and Desert View with its Indian watchtower on the way. Your late lunch stop will be at the old trading post at Cameron, in the middle of the Navajo Reservation. In the afternoon you will ride along the painted desert and visit Wutpatki & Sunset Crater National Monument. Overnight stay in Williams.

Day 08: Winslow - Petrified Forest NP - Indian Trading Post, 420 km
Today you leave Arizona in the direction of New Mexico. You will pass the abandoned Twin Arrows gas station and take a break in Winslow. This place was sung by the American band "the Eagles" with the song "take it easy - standing on the corner in Winslow, Arizona". The tour continues to the Jack Rabbit Trading Post and the Wigwam Hotel in Holbrook. In the afternoon, Petrified Forest National Park and the Yellow Chief Trading Post are on the itinerary. Overnight in the old railroad and Indian town of Gallup.
Day 09: Laguna - Albuquerque - Santa Fe, 420 km
Today you will travel through the Navajo Wilderness, over wide roads and through a purple and blood-red sea of colors. You will visit the 300 year old mission church in Laguna. Next up is the balloon festival town of Albuquerque on the Rio Grande River, where you'll spend your lunch break in the historic plaza. Weather and time permitting, you will ride the Scenic Route to the unique Sandia Crest viewpoint at over 3200 meters. In the afternoon you will stop in the small town of Madrid and at Maggie's Diner, made famous by the movie "Wild Hogs" with John Travolta and Tim Allen. The final point of your today's stage is Santa Fe, where you will spend two nights. In the evening you will visit the Oldtown and you can already get a first overview of this historic city.
Day 10: Rest day or day tour Taos & Rio Grande, 0 - 290 km
Today you can relax a bit. Santa Fe is a great place for shopping. If you feel like it, come with us on a tour to the old Indian pueblo of Taos, which you will reach along the Rio Grande River Valley. The steel girder bridge, high above the Rio Grande Gorge, gives you a great view of the river. From here, on a clear day, you'll have a view of the southern, mostly snow-covered foothills of the Rocky Mountains. The return trip is through the desert-like, but not dry, highlands. Overnight stay in Santa Fe.
Day 11: Tucumcari - Mid Point - Cadillac Ranch - Big Texas Steakhouse, 490 km
Today you leave Santa Fe through the High Plains, the Comanche country. You will ride to Tucumcari, where you will make a photo stop at the Blue Swallow Motel. You've already checked off three (or four) states on your list and have five more to go. Shortly after Glen Rio, you'll reach Mid Point in Adrian, which is 1139 miles from the beginning or end of the Route 66 motorcycle tour.
Now, arriving in Texas, you'll see a Caddle Round Up, or as we jokingly say, Tonight's Steak. The next highlight is the Cadillac Ranch, which is supposed to remind you of the old days of Route 66. Set up at the same angle as the pyramids of Giza, these old cars are one of the highlights. For tonight, you can mentally prepare yourself for a steak "Texasstyle". Whoever manages the 4 1/2 pound T-bone steak including side dishes in 60 minutes will get it sponsored by the Big Texan Steakhouse! So bon appétit. Overnight stay in Amarillo.
Day 12: Texas - Elk City - Oklahoma City, 430 km
There are plenty of attractions to see today. The largest cross in the western hemisphere, the leaning water tower in Britton or the Devils Rope Museum. You'll stop at the restored U-Drop Inn, one of the old original Route 66 gas stations in the oil town of Shamrock. Continue through the panhandle of Texas. At Texola you will enter the state of Oklahoma and then visit the largest Route-66 museum in the USA in Elk City. In the afternoon you will continue to Clinton, the heart and soul of Route 66 country and cross the Canadian River on a 1000 meter long pony bridge. Via El Reno you will reach your overnight destination Oklahoma City or OKC for short.
Day 13: Red Barn - Blue Whale - Rainbow Bridge - Kansas, 410 km
You will leave OKC after a short stop at the Capitol of the capital of Oklahoma. You'll then ride the Motherroad, 100 miles through Indian Country in the Old West. The asphalt ribbon of the Route 66 journey follows the land here as if it has always been here. Along the way are attractions such as the Red Barn in Arcadia and the Seaba Gas Station in Warwick. The old steel arch bridge over Rock Creek is on the itinerary, as is the blue whale in Catoosa. You will visit the historic city of Miami and see the Route 66 Vintage Museum and the famous Coleman Theater. The US star Will Rogers used to perform here regularly. Afterwards you will go to the sunflower state Kansas. This has, with just 20 km, the shortest distance of Route 66. The attractions here are the Rainbow Bridge and the small town of Galena, which is again close to the border with the state of Missouri. The next larger city is Joplin, where you also spend the night.
Day 14: Missouri - Fantastic Caverns - Ozark Mountains, 340 km
Today you will visit the historic courthouse in Carthage and the old Sinclair gas station in Halltown. You will pass the lesser known towns of Conway and Lebanon, located on Missouri's Route 66. Today you have the opportunity to visit the unique stalactite cave of Fantastic Caverns, near Springfield, by jeep train. Lunch will be spent at an outdoor shopping paradise and museum, Bass Pro Shop, in Springfield. The afternoon will take you through the hills of the Ozark Mountains and you will visit the Munger Moss Motel, known from many Route 66 picture books. The last highlight of the day is the Devil's Elbow Bridge with the biker bar of the same name, near your overnight destination Rolla.
Day 15: St. Louis - Mississippi River - Illinois, 370 km
In the morning, the largest rocking chair in the world and the Wagon Wheel Motel in Cuba are on the agenda. In the late morning you will reach St. Louis on the Mississippi River. The landmark of the city is the gigantic Arch and this can be seen from far away. After the lunch break there, you will cross the Old Men River when leaving the city and reach the state of Illinois. If necessary, you can visit the "Chain of Rocks" bridge. The following towns on Route 66 are too many to stop everywhere, but the Paris Stop Cafe in Ariston and the Lady of the Highway Statue in Waggoner are must-sees. In the early evening you will reach your overnight destination Springfield, which is also the capital of Illinois.
Day 16: Dixie Truck Stop - Gemini Launch Pad - Chicago, 320 km
Today, unfortunately, your tour is coming to an end. But not before you see the last highlights of the old Route 66. The Capitol Building in Springfield is the first stop, followed by the Smiley Wasertower and the giant Hot Dog Man in Atlanta. Past Funks Groove and endless maple forests, you'll make your way to the Dixie Truck Stop.
Along the way, you'll visit some old gas stations from the '30s before reaching the Gemini Giant & Launch Pad Drive Inn in Willmington. From here you continue on Route 66 past Countryside to Des Plaines. There you will return your bikes to our rental station. Overnight stay for the next two days will be in the Chicago/O'Hare Airport area.
Day 17: Chicago
Today you have free time in Chicago, also known as the "Windy City". Experience the city on an escorted tour in a double-decker bus and visit the Willis Tower (formerly Sears Tower), from the "Sky Deck" there you have a fantastic overview of the city. The Route 66 sign, the Millennium Park, the Navy Pier, the Buckingham Fountain from the opening credits of the series "A terribly nice family - Al Bundy" and the polished bean are of course also on the program (optional, advance booking required!). Tonight you will spend together in a good restaurant and review the tour. Overnight stay in the Chicago/O'Hare Airport area.

Day 18: Return flight to Europe
During the day, the hotel shuttle transfer to the Chicago airport is on your own and it's time to say goodbye. The flight back to your chosen departure point will take place (connecting flights are possible).
