Rental motorcycle: During this trip, we ride typical AKT 200 cc motorcycles - made in Colombia. Seat height 84 cm.
Insurance: The motorcycles are covered by liability insurance. This insurance covers personal injury to third parties. Property damage to third parties is not covered. In case of damage to the vehicle, caused by own fault, the material costs have to be paid by the causer.
Visa (Exclusive): up to 90 days visa-free. German citizens do not need a visa for a purely tourist stay in Colombia.
Difficulty level: 4/5 - Medium difficulty tours with frequent unpaved roads. Various factors, such as altitude, climate, distances, or basic accommodations determine the difficulty of the tour. However, you should have ridden enough kilometers. Riding on gravel, loose ground, or steep ascents and descents should not be a problem for you. First off-road experience is an advantage so that you can move safely on gravel. If you have no experience with off-road riding, then you definitely need an off-road training.
Tour character: During the trip through Colombia we ride very varied routes. Sometimes it goes over good paved roads, over sand, over stones, through the desert, or in the mountains. But we don't come/stay on considerable heights. The day trips are sometimes long, but on the way, there is enough time and possibility to stop, take pictures, or visit villages.
Offroad: Almost every day of the trip we move partly on unpaved roads. These routes are sometimes difficult to ride without off-road experience. Offroad experience is therefore necessary. Basic offroad training (with a small machine is enough) is very useful as a preparation. This is because it teaches you how to best handle your motorcycle off-road. It will certainly increase your riding pleasure. The motorcycles are light and handy enduros, perfect for dirt roads. This tour is not suitable for beginners.
Clothing: A helmet is mandatory, as well as protective clothing with protectors, good gloves, and boots or sturdy shoes. We recommend an open enduro helmet with goggles that seal well against dust. Furthermore, of course, a good pair of sunglasses is handy. Cold (14 ⁰C) is to be expected in the mountains, and sometimes with rain, so you should have rain protection with you.
Climate: The climate in Colombia varies greatly depending on the area and has different climate zones. Temperatures and rainfall vary depending on the location and altitude of each region. The rainy season in Colombia lasts from mid-March to May and from September to mid-December. The dry season, the so-called summer, is from December to March and from June to September. In recent years, some shifts have been noticeable due to the shift in climate. Around the equator, the temperature is regulated by altitude and not by seasons. The lower the altitude, the warmer the weather. The higher the altitude, the colder it gets. During the day, sometimes expect temperatures between 14 ⁰C and 25 ⁰C. It is important to keep this in mind when choosing clothing.
Travel documents: For this trip, you need a valid international driver's license and a passport, which is generally valid for 6 months beyond the trip.
Language: This offer is usually suitable for English and/or German speaking participants. Please enquire for language options.
Mobility: The offer is not suitable for people with reduced mobility. Please contact us for more information.

Itinerary:

Day 1 - Arrival Bogotá, Transfer to Chía

Arrive at Bogotá airport and transfer to the hotel in Chía (about 60 min drive). To avoid the hustle and bustle of the big city, we start the tour in Chía.

-

Day 2 - Chía - Girardot

Early in the morning, the motorcycles are handed over and then we start on the country road with a small western curve to avoid the traffic of the capital Bogotá as much as possible. Via Facatativá and Tocaima we reach Girardot with small stops at waterfalls, viewpoints, and cozy restaurants. (170 km paved road only)

-

Day 3 - Girardot - Tatacoa Desert - Villa Vieja

Today is a day with 1000 impressions! We start on a paved road until we reach the village of Prado, then we ride on an easy track past rice fields and through small idyllic villages until we finally reach higher and higher into the jungle. Spectacular views are guaranteed. Between Alpujarrá and Baraya a river has to be crossed - until recently there was no bridge, the alternative is small boats. We will be surprised if the bridge is finished in the meantime. In the late afternoon, we reach the desert Tatacoa and our accommodation in Villa Vieja. (210km - of which approx. 100 km on the dirt road)

-

Day 4 - Villa Vieja - Toche

After a short stretch through the desert, we get back on the paved road and ride via Natagaima and Ibagué to Cajamarca. From here begins a winding off-road route through the Colombian coffee mountains with great views. On the gentle serpentines, we reach the small town of Toche, where a simple but good hostel with a nice atmosphere awaits us. From here you can see a nearby volcano - and also bathe in a warm thermal spring. (240 km - about 50 km offroad)

-

Day 5 - Toche - Salento - Filandia

Today's route is definitely a highlight! From Toche to Salento we ride on a mega beautiful offroad track. After a short time, you will also see the famous, huge wax palms of the Cocora Valley. After 3-4 hours of riding with breathtaking views, we will reach Salento, an enchanting colonial town, where we will have lunch and where we will also have some time to look around before we continue to our accommodation in Filandia. (120 km - approx. 80 offroad)

-

Day 6 - Rest day - Filandia

At Steelhorse Farm we have one day to pursue other activities. Our hostess Yvette will find something for everyone: in a semi-open Willys jeep through the coffee zone, a ride on the farm's own horses, great hiking routes, paragliding, and ziplining. There is certainly something for everyone. In the evening, we'll find ourselves in the large dining room for a meal or barbecue together.

-

Day 7 - Filandia - Jardín

After a hearty breakfast at the farm, we will ride via Cerritos and La Virginia to Rio Sucio. The area impresses with its views over the wide valleys and we will stop to taste the national drink "Aguapanela con limón y queso". From Rio Sucio, a great off-road route through an exuberant nature awaits us. In this area it rains frequently, and the rampant green of the jungle is absolutely fascinating. The friendly town of Jardín is colorful and spoils us with many culinary options in the evening. (200km - of which 40 km offroad)

-

Day 8 - Jardín - Santa Fé de Antioquia

From Jardín we ride over small, winding roads to Jericó, a small untouristy town, where we can have a typical lunch in the plaza and have a look at the farmers who bring the harvest to town with their mules. A beautiful and idyllic place. On the onward journey in the direction of Bolombolo, we get again 1000 times great views, and also the somewhat larger road to Santa Fé de Antioquia does not disappoint. The small town, already founded in 1541, enchants its preserved colonial architecture and has the flair of a place where time has stood still. (190 km - partly offroad)

-

Day 9 - Santa Fé de Antioquia - Guatapé

Today we make our way to a highlight in Colombia: the Peñolde Guatapé. This monolith, which can be seen from far away, is very famous in the country and was already declared a national monument in the 1940s. Over a little more than 700 steps you can fight your way to the top. We keep this sporty challenge for the next morning and relax after the long riding day only once directly at the reservoir, which one can ride to also by boat. (approx. 200km - a bit offroad)

-

Day 10 - Guatapé - Puerto Nare

The morning can still be used to explore the Peñol, and around noon we continue towards San Carlos, where a beautiful and easy-to-ride offroad track of about 3 hours begins. It ends in Puerto Nare, an enchanted little town directly on the country's largest river, the Río Magdalena. Here it is again very pleasantly untouristy, we go in the evening to the harbor promenade, where the locals offer many small things from the grill. If the weather is nice, a great sunset awaits us here directly at the river. (120km - 40 km offroad)

-

Day 11 - Puerto Nare - Quípama

We take the ferry to the other shore, have a typical breakfast with the local workers, and then continue towards Puerto Boyacá. Here we have a few more kilometers of tar, which soon turn into one of the most beautiful off-road passages of the trip. After lunch in the tranquil Otanche, the wild landscape with its canyons and river crossings becomes more and more beautiful until we finally end up in the small town of Quípama. Climatically and scenically once again the total contrast to the previous day. (180 km- 50 km offroad)

-

Day 12 - Quípama - Villa de Leyva

The diversity of the landscape continues to this day. We see sugar cane plantations, banana fields, and colorful plant life. We make a short stop to see how a farmer makes panelas (sugar cane). Here they still work with the simplest means. Afterward, we ride on a newly paved road with soft curves to Muzo, from where it goes up to 3000m altitude. Here it can often get foggy. We have lunch in Chiquinquirá and then take the remaining kilometers under our wheels to arrive in the evening in the popular town of Villa de Leyva. Its huge colonial plaza is famous throughout the country. Here again, a great culinary offer awaits us. (150 km - 40km offroad)

-

Day 13 - Villa de Leyva - Zipaquirá - Chía - Bogotá

Our last day of riding takes us from Villa de Leyva via Zipaquirá to Chía, where the motorcycles will be dropped off again. In Zipaquirá we make a stopover to see the legendary Salt Cathedral. From Chía we get a transfer to the hotel in Bogotá for the last night. (155 km - no offroad)

-

Day 14 - Departure to Germany

You will be taken to the airport in Bogotá. Full of new impressions you will go back home.

Changes in the route can be adapted to the current local conditions.
