Accommodation:
Standard category: Generally 3-star hotels, mostly in central locations
Comfort category: 4-star hotels or upscale room category in 3-star hotels
As a general rule, comfortable hotels cannot be guaranteed in every location. While there is usually a wide range of hotels of all categories in the major cities and tourist centers, we have to switch to lower-classified hotels in smaller towns or rural areas. We then try to compensate for this by offering a higher room category, for example.
-
Notes:
Arrival:
You ride your own motorcycle on this tour. Please note that this trip includes the ferry from Kiel to Lübeck-Travemünde and motorcycle transportation on the ferry. Alternatively, you can ride by ferry from Trelleborg to Rostock. In this case, please select the return journey option under the optional services in the price section.
-
Meals on the ferries:
On the ferries, meals are offered in the on-board restaurants - payable on the spot. For some ferry connections, we offer meal packages that can be booked in advance. These can then be found under optional services in the price section of the trip and can only be booked directly in connection with the trip; it is not possible to add them at a later date.
-
Route description and GPS data:
The route description and GPS data correspond to the course of the tour as described in the invitation to tender. Individual changes and optional programs are not taken into account. The start and end points of our GPS data are usually the city/town centers of the day's destination, as the hotels we usually book may vary. You will not receive route descriptions or GPS data for customized trips.
-
Parking spaces:
We generally use hotels that have parking spaces. We reserve a parking space for you when booking (where possible, no obligation). Parking fees may apply, which you please pay on-site. The amount of parking fees can vary greatly depending on the location and hotel.
-
Ferry fees Curonian Spit:
The ferry fees for the Curonian Spit are not included in the tour price and must be paid locally. The car ferry to the Curonian Spit departs south of Klaipeda city center (New Ferry Terminal) and departs approximately every 20 to 30 minutes. The ferry for pedestrians and cyclists departs near the center of Klaipeda (Old Ferry Terminal). The crossing is payable on the spot in cash or by credit card. Please note that the ticket is valid for the outward and return journey. Further information on times and costs can be found at www.keltas.lt/en/home/ or on request.
-
National Park fees Curonian Spit:
Access to the northern spit and thus to the Lithuanian National Park is only possible for a fee (payable on site). When arriving from Klaipeda, an entrance fee is charged at a checkpoint near Alksnyne. Cyclists are exempt from the charge. You can find more information on nature conservation fees at http://neringa.eparkingas.lt/tickets/pricelist.html
-
Tolls Scandinavia:
Toll charges may apply on some stages, e.g. in Sweden and Norway. Billing is usually automatic, your vehicle is registered when you ride through the toll station and you receive an invoice sent to your home (or to the owner's address). In some cases, however, there are also stations with cash payment.
-
Credit card recommendation for Scandinavia:
Electronic payment methods are more common in Scandinavia than here in Germany. Many petrol stations in Scandinavia are self-service stations, for example, which can usually only be operated with a credit card and PIN; EC cards are not always accepted. You should therefore take a credit card and the corresponding PIN with you on your trip. There are also some hotels, ferry or toll stations that may only accept electronic payment methods.
-
Health requirements:
Please contact your family doctor for vaccination advice for the destination.
Please read the travel advice of the Federal Foreign Office at www.auswaertiges-amt.de

Description

Once around the Baltic Sea: you start in Klaipeda in the Memel region, pass pretty seaside resorts and the Baltic capitals of Riga and Tallinn. From lively Helsinki, you travel to Turku. Here the ferry departs for Stockholm - an incredibly beautiful passage through the Finnish archipelago. From Stockholm you follow the Swedish coastline to Trelleborg.

The journey thus creates a link between east and west, between metropolis and province, between culture and nature. In short: this voyage is an all-round tour that brings you closer to the many facets of the Baltic Sea countries!

-

Tour character:

You ride along the Baltic Sea coast - approx. 1,900 km through five countries. A royal tour where a comfortable motorcycle won't hurt. Most of the routes are side roads, but you can't always avoid busy stretches of road, especially around the major cities. There are four longer daily stages, but all of them are easy to ride. If you have some time, you can book an extension for Saaremaa.

-

Highlights:

- 1,900 km through five countries

- Day trip across the Curonian Spit

- Impressions of nature in the Gauja National Park

- Archipelago: by ferry from Turku to Stockholm

- bookable: flying visit to Saaremaa

-

Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrival

Individual arrival in Kiel, embarkation and departure (approx. 21.00 hrs) towards the Baltic States. Overnight stay on board.

-

Day 2: Klaipeda

Arrival in Klaipeda (approx. 18.00 hrs) and opportunity to discover old Memel on a walking tour. The Simon-Dach fountain with the Ännchen von Tharau on the theater square and the small half-timbered houses are well worth a visit. Overnight stay in Klaipeda.

-

Day 3: Curonian Spit (approx. 100 km)

Ride to the Curonian Spit - along the spit road, through sparse forests, over gently undulating dune tops and always with a view of the lagoon to Nida (Nidden). Most of the peninsula is protected as a national park and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In addition to the unique natural landscape, the former fishing villages of Juodkrante (Schwarzort) and Nida (Nidden) are well worth a visit. Nida captivates visitors with its pretty fishermen's cottages, charming location on the lagoon and relaxed vacation atmosphere. The cafés and restaurants along the promenade invite you to take a break. Perhaps take a walk to the Parnidden dune before heading back to Klaipeda. Alternatively (or additionally), you can take a tour through the Memelland. Overnight stay in Klaipeda.

-

Day 4: Klaipeda - Palanga - Kuldiga - Riga (approx. 350 km)

You travel via Palanga and Kuldiga to Riga. The route takes you partly along the beautiful Lithuanian-Latvian coast. Riga: A contrasting program if you have just come from the spit! Riga is the largest city in the Baltic States, lively, modern and historic in equal measure. Overnight stay in Riga.

-

Day 5: Riga - Gauja National Park - Pärnu (approx. 250 km)

Ride to the Gauja National Park, which is dominated by the Gauja river meandering through the landscape. Turaida Castle (Treyden) near Sigulda could be a first stop. A beautiful panorama in the Gauja National Park is guaranteed in any case! Ride through the Latvian province to Pärnu. The former Hanseatic town of Pernau invites you to make a flying visit with its beautiful wooden villas, extensive parks and a wonderful beach. The seaside resort is considered the "summer capital" of Estonia. Overnight stay in Pärnu.

-

Day 6: Pärnu - Haapsalu - Tallinn (approx. 220 or 260 km)

The next stop is Haapsalu. The health resort was already extremely popular in Tsarist times. You reach Tallinn via a quiet side road. The cityscape is characterized by winding cobblestone streets and pointed gabled merchants' houses - as befits an old Hanseatic city. Overnight stay in Tallinn.

-

Day 7: Tallinn - Helsinki

Ferry crossing to Helsinki and plenty of time to get to know the lively Finnish capital. Of course, the harbor, the old market hall (Kauppahalli) at the harbor, the Senate Square with the cathedral and the famous rock church are worth seeing. The Design District in the heart of the city is a good place to admire Finnish design. Overnight stay in Helsinki.

-

Day 8: Helsinki - Turku (approx. 200 km)

Ride to Turku and opportunity to admire the "gateway to the Finnish archipelago". Here too, your route could take you to the old shopping arcade, where a coffee and a cinnamon pastry are a must. Later, embark for the wonderful crossing through the beautiful Finnish archipelago towards Stockholm. Overnight stay on board.

-

Day 9: Stockholm

Arrival in Stockholm in the morning and opportunity for an exploratory tour. You can visit the Royal Palace, take a walk through the old town Gamla Stan or visit one of the many museums. We also recommend the evening view of the old town from one of the hills on Södermalm. The district is considered a trendy district worth seeing and also offers plenty of opportunities for shopping or eating out. Overnight stay in Stockholm.

-

Day 10: Stockholm - Oskarshamn (approx. 340 km)

Your route takes you along the beautiful Baltic Sea coast, with Swedish red cottages and farms nestling in the landscape. Your destination for the day is Oskarshamn, whose harbor connects the Swedish mainland with the island of Gotland. Take a stroll through the Fnyket district with its picturesque wooden houses by the harbor. Overnight stay in Oskarshamn.

-

Day 11: Oskarshamn - Kalmar - Ystad (approx. 360 km)

You ride to Kalmar with its numerous old town alleyways. Here it is worth visiting the cathedral and the castle. Via Karlshamn, you travel to Kristianstad with its well-preserved old town center and the Holy Trinity Church, which is well worth seeing. The day's destination is Ystad, where crime thriller fans can follow in the footsteps of Mankell's detective Wallander. Everyone else can stroll around the pretty town center. Overnight stay in Ystad.

-

Day 12: Departure

In the morning ride to the port of Trelleborg, embarkation and departure (depending on the day of departure, departure at approx. 9.30/10.00 am or 1.00 pm). Arrival in Lübeck-Travemünde (or alternatively Rostock) in the evening (approx. 7.30 p.m. or 9.00 p.m.).

-

You can add additional packages or sightseeing tours to this trip. You can find more details in the price section of the trip.

-

Additional package Saaremaa Island (2 nights):

The island of Saaremaa (Ösel) awaits its visitors with idyllic scenery: stone walls made of erratic blocks, thatched-roof houses and trestle windmills characterize its appearance. The roads with little traffic are a great area for motorcycle tours.

The extension package can be booked from Pärnu and to Tallinn.
