Baltics Pure: Curonian Spit, Riga & Saaremaa, 15 Days

It begins with your own journey to Kiel and embarkation in the evening. At around 9 pm the ferry casts off towards the Baltics, you spend the night comfortably on board and let the opening evening run out at sea.

Klaipeda is your first stop in the Baltics. In the evening you explore the historic old town with Theatre Square, the Ännchen von Tharau fountain and the half-timbered houses that are typical of the region.

Today the spit road leads through open forest and gentle dunes to Nida. The peninsula is a protected area and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the fishing villages of Nida and Juodkrante invite a break.

Along the Nemunas the way runs through small towns to Vilnius. Old hill forts recall the former line of defence, and the day's destination is the Lithuanian capital with its winding lanes.

The day loop runs through the Aukstaitija National Park in eastern Lithuania, past crystal-clear lakes and dense forest. The geographical centre of Europe lies on the way, before the return to Vilnius for a second night.

This stage runs via Trakai with its island castle and the popular provincial town of Kedainiai to the Hill of Crosses. Thousands of crosses define this historic pilgrimage site near Siauliai.

Along the way you cross the Kurzeme region and stop in historic Kuldiga with its well-preserved centre. Via Sabile and the seaside resort of Jurmala you reach the capital Riga in the evening.

A full day belongs to exploring Riga: the cathedral, St Peter's Church, the House of the Blackheads and Riga Castle shape the old town, while the art nouveau facades of the new town invite a photo stop.

The day begins with a stop at the Gauja National Park and the Turaida castle ruin. Via the former Hanseatic town of Pärnu with its wooden villas you reach the island of Saaremaa in the evening and your accommodation in Kuressaare.

A free day on Saaremaa takes you to the medieval castle of Kuressaare, the five windmills near Angla and the Kaali meteorite crater – ideal for a luggage-free exploration of the island.

Today the way runs through the south of the country to Tartu, the oldest city in the Baltics. The Kissing Students sculpture on the town hall square is the unofficial emblem of the university town.

This stage runs along the vast Lake Peipus, past the Russian Orthodox monastery of Kuremäe, and on into the oldest national park in Estonia, right on the northern coast.

After a loop through Lahemaa with its fishing villages, manor houses and glacial boulders you reach the Estonian capital. The medieval old town around the town hall square invites a stroll.

Today the way turns back: first by ferry to Helsinki, then in the late afternoon onward towards Germany. You spend the night comfortably on board the ship once again.

After a quiet last day at sea the loop ends in the evening in the port of Lübeck-Travemünde. From here everyone rides home individually on their own machine, with around 2,500 kilometres behind them.
