Lanes and lakes of Masuria
Between Gizycko, Swieta Lipka and Ketrzyn the road strings together narrow avenues, lake shores and small villages. The day has no fixed length: you ride as long as the road and the light allow.
Bialowieza primeval forest
Between Warsaw and Bialystok you cross the last lowland primeval forest in Europe, home to free-roaming bison. After the city stages of the first days it is an abrupt change: forest, gravel tracks at the verge and very little traffic.
Malbork Teutonic castle
On the way to Gdansk stands the largest medieval brick castle in Europe, right on the Nogat river. It is worth a stop from the outside alone, and for the interior you should allow two hours and set off earlier.
Gdansk on the Motlawa
The Crane, Long Market and St Mary's Church sit close together, so the bike can stay parked for a day. In the evening the terraces along the Motlawa fill up, and the ride out to Westerplatte is worth the detour.
Coast towards Darlowo
Past Gdansk it empties out: Pomerania is pine, dunes and seaside towns that stand almost deserted outside high summer. Between Darlowo and Szczecin every detour north towards the water pays off.
