Guided, three nights in the High Tatras

The meeting point is the Seligweiler services near Ulm Ost. You ride your own machine; no rental is offered for this programme, and the support vehicle carries the luggage, up to 15 kilograms per person. Along the way come eight nights on half board: one in Flachau, three in Bratislava, three at the foot of the High Tatras and one in Waldkirchen. The difficulty is medium, but it asks for confidence on winding, narrow back roads and the stamina for nine days in a row.

Highlights

Fernpass and Zillertal

The approach is part of the ride: over Kempten and the Fernpass into Tyrol, on through Obsteig and Innsbruck into the Zillertal, and along the Gerlosalpenstrasse to Flachau in Salzburg province.

Three Nights at the Tatras

In Tatranská Lomnica the group stays three nights at the Grandhotel Praha, at the foot of the High Tatras. Two day loops without luggage run from there into the national parks of the region and back.

The Slovak Karst

One of the two loops runs from the High through the Low Tatras and out to the Slovak Karst National Park. Bare plateaus and dense forest keep alternating along this stage of the week.

Liptovská Mara and Orava

The second loop follows the Tatra National Park to the Liptovská Mara and Orava reservoirs near the Polish border. On the way back the Bachledova treetop walk is there as an option.

A Rest Day in Bratislava

After the ride back from the Tatras comes a day with no stage: a guided walk through the old town in the morning, free time in the afternoon. The bus transfer between hotel and centre is included.

Itinerary

Stage 1

Day 1–9

Slovakia

Nine days from Ulm through Tyrol and Austria into Slovakia, to the High and Low Tatras and back via Bratislava.

Day 1 · Slovakia

Day 1: Ulm – Fernpass – Zillertal – Flachau

It starts at the Seligweiler services near Ulm Ost. Over Kempten and the Fernpass the way leads into Tyrol, on through Obsteig and Innsbruck into the Zillertal. The Gerlosalpenstrasse carries the group via Bruck and St. Johann to Flachau in Salzburg province, the first overnight stop.

Day 2 · Slovakia

Day 2: Flachau – Styria – Bratislava

The stage runs through Styria, past Liezen, into the Gesäuse National Park and through the Salzatal into Burgenland near Wiener Neustadt. Via Eisenstadt and the border crossing at Kittsee, Bratislava is reached in the evening.

Day 3 · Slovakia

Day 3: Bratislava – High Tatras – Tatranská Lomnica

From Bratislava the route follows the Danube for around 100 kilometres to Komárno on the Slovak side. After that it turns lonely: partly through the Low Tatras the way runs to Tatranská Lomnica, the base for the coming three nights.

Day 4 · Slovakia

Day 4: Day Loop to the Slovak Karst

Without luggage the loop runs from the High through the Low Tatras out to the Slovak Karst National Park and back to the hotel in Tatranská Lomnica by other roads. Bare plateaus and dense forest shape the day.

Day 5 · Slovakia

Day 5: Day Loop to Liptovská Mara and Orava

Along the Tatra National Park the way leads to the Liptovská Mara reservoir and on to the Orava reservoir near the Polish border. After a break by the water the loop heads back to the hotel, optionally via the Bachledova treetop walk.

Day 6 · Slovakia

Day 6: High Tatras – Martin – Bratislava

Past the Little Fatra National Park the route runs via Martin and Topoľčany on small country roads back towards Bratislava. This time the group stays two nights, in the same hotel as at the beginning of the week.

Day 7 · Slovakia

Day 7: Rest Day with a City Walk

There is no stage today. In the morning a guided walk leads through the old town of Bratislava, and the afternoon is free for whatever you feel like. The bus transfer between the hotel and the centre is included in the price, in both directions.

Day 8 · Slovakia

Day 8: Bratislava – Lower Austria – Waldkirchen

Back across the border into Austria the way runs above Vienna through Lower Austria, then along the Czech border via Krems and Zwettl to Waldkirchen in Germany, where the last night of the week is spent before the run home.

Day 9 · Slovakia

Day 9: Waldkirchen – Danube – Ulm

The final day runs from Waldkirchen along the Danube via Regensburg, Ingolstadt and Donauwörth back to Ulm Ost Seligweiler. A photo stop at Weltenburg Abbey is planned on the way, before the group says goodbye.
