Thailand
This Thailand motorcycle tour takes you all the way through the north of the country - from Chiang Mai via the Golden Triangle to Mae Hong Son and back.
Day 1: Arrival in Chiang Mai
Your Thailand motorcycle tour begins with your arrival in Chiang Mai, where your tour guide and group pick you up at the airport. After the transfer to the hotel there is time for a first test ride on your rental motorcycle in left-hand traffic and a stroll through the old town.
Day 2: Chiang Mai - Phayao, 220 km
This stage of the Chiang Mai motorcycle tour leads along main roads out of the city and then onto winding country roads through hilly farmland. In the evening you reach Kwan Phayao, the largest freshwater lake in Northern Thailand, and stay overnight at a boutique hotel on the shore.
Day 3: Phayao - Phu Chi Fha, 165 km
On the way to Phu Chi Fha you cross wide farmland of the Lanna region on your Honda CRF 250 rental motorcycle and encounter numerous water buffalo. A stop at Phu Sang Waterfall breaks up the ride before you climb into the border mountains with Laos. Overnight in a homestay.
Day 4: Phu Chi Fha - Chiang Rai, 250 km
The longest riding day takes you through the mountains and along the Mekong to the famous Golden Triangle, where the borders of Thailand, Laos and Myanmar meet. The region once became known through the opium trade. Overnight in Chiang Rai.
Day 5: Chiang Rai - Thaton, 190 km
This stage of the Chiang Rai motorcycle tour begins with a visit to the Choui Fong tea plantation and then continues steeply and full of curves along the border with Myanmar. In Doi Mae Salong, a Chinese village, you take a tea break before continuing on to Thaton.
Day 6: Thaton - Muang Khong, 190 km
After visiting Wat Thaton temple with its wonderful view, you climb a steep switchback road to Doi Angkhang, right in the mountains of Chiang Dao. Narrow side roads finally bring you to Muang Khong, a small village amid rice fields.
Day 7: Muang Khong - Pai, 100 km
After a relaxed night at the Northern Thailand homestay, you continue on quiet side roads north to Wieng Hang and on to the popular mountain town of Pai, where you will spend the next two nights.
Day 8: Pai (Rest Day)
The Pai rest day gives you time to explore the village of Santichon, Pai Canyon or one of the hot springs. A visit to an elephant camp is also possible before the motorcycle tour continues the next day.
Day 9: Pai - Mae Hong Son, 120 km
This stage of the Mae Hong Son motorcycle tour follows the Elephant Trail, alternating between paved and unpaved sections, past small villages and green jungle. In the afternoon you reach Mae Hong Son and can visit the Long Neck Village.
Day 10: Mae Hong Son - Mae Sariang, 200 km
A winding paved road takes you to the Doi Mae U-Kor sunflower fields before you reach Mae Sariang in the evening. Along the way you see wide rice fields of Northern Thailand and stay overnight at a teak-wood hotel on the Yuam River.
Day 11: Mae Sariang Loop, 105 km
A great offroad day leads through Salawin National Park with numerous river crossings. The Mae Sariang offroad loop takes you to the old police station at Tha Ta Fung on the border with Myanmar and back to the hotel on gravel tracks.
