Mývatn and Námaskarð
The very first riding day passes the pseudocraters at Skútustaðir, the lava formations of Dimmuborgir and the high-temperature field at Námaskarð. A dip in the turquoise Mývatn Nature Baths is included in the price.
Whales off Húsavík
Húsavík counts as the whale capital of the island. The included whale watching sets off in the afternoon, with humpbacks and dolphins often surfacing; the GeoSea Baths above the bay warm you up afterwards.
Dettifoss and Ásbyrgi
Across the Tjörnes peninsula the route reaches the horseshoe canyon of Ásbyrgi and the Dettifoss waterfall, before turning into the highlands at Möðrudalur, where arctic foxes sometimes show themselves.
The Stuðlagil Gorge
The basalt column gorge of Stuðlagil is the goal of the eighth day. A short detour leads to the museum farm at Sænautasel, and the exhibition at the Wilderness Center follows, with admission covered by the price.
Out on Your Own
Pace and detours are yours to choose: a gravel loop into the Eyjafjörður, the Great White Plague Museum, or the way round by Borgarfjörður Eystri to the puffins. Route description and GPS data are supplied.
