This Cape Town to Windhoek motorcycle tour is a guided enduro ride through southern Africa, starting in the most beautiful city in the world. After first loops around the Cape Peninsula, the route continues to the Cape of Good Hope, through the vineyards of the Cape region and the Cederberg Mountains, into Namaqualand. At the Orange River you cross the border into Namibia and continue towards Lüderitz Bay, Helmeringhausen and the Namib Desert, before the tour ends in Windhoek.

This Namibia motorcycle tour starts in Cape Town and takes you through the green Cape region, past vineyards, passes and coastal roads all the way to Namaqualand.

Day 2 · South Africa

Cape Town – Arrival & Exploration

Arrival at Cape Town Airport, where we pick you up. We stay at the ANEW Hotel in Greenpoint, in the heart of the city. After checking in there is time for a city tour and a stroll along the Waterfront, before we head to dinner together.

Exploring the Cape Peninsula

After a briefing and motorcycle handover, we set off for the Cape Peninsula. Varied riding, with the world-famous Chapman's Peak and its 114 bends, takes us on this Cape of Good Hope ride past Kalk Bay, Fish Hoek and the penguin colony at Boulders Beach.

Cape Point – Hermanus

Over the spectacular Chapman's Peak we continue to the Cape of Good Hope, the southernmost tip of the Cape Peninsula. Around 200 km of dreamy coastal road bring us to the whale-watching town of Hermanus, right on the sea.

Hermanus – Stellenbosch

On small gravel roads we reach Cape Agulhas, the southernmost point of Africa and the boundary between the Indian and Atlantic Oceans. Via the Franschhoek Pass, this off-road ride through the Cape region continues to picturesque Stellenbosch.

Stellenbosch – Cederberg

The spectacular Bains Pass leads us into the fruit orchards of Ceres, from where the Gydo Pass takes us onto this Cederberg and Namaqualand stage. On wonderful gravel roads we reach the large Clanwilliam Dam.

Cederberg – Strandfontein
Day 7 · South Africa

Cederberg – Strandfontein

Bizarre rock formations shape this stage of South Africa's off-road passes. Many viewpoints invite you to stop, before we reach the wine-growing areas of the Olifants River and overnight on the Atlantic coast in Doringbaai.

Strandfontein – Namaqualand
Day 8 · South Africa

Strandfontein – Namaqualand

We continue north, almost parallel to the coast. On lonely gravel tracks this Cederberg and Namaqualand stage crosses gently rolling, endless hills, passing abandoned farms to reach the Houthoop guest farm near the diamond fields.

Day 9–15

Namibia

After crossing the border at the Orange River, this Namibia motorcycle tour continues through the Richtersveld, the Namib Desert and the Khomas Highland to the capital, Windhoek.

Namaqualand – Orange River

On rutted gravel tracks past diamond mines we reach Port Nolloth to refuel. This Richtersveld enduro stage takes us through rocky landscapes before we cross the border into Namibia at the Orange River.

Orange River – Lüderitz Bay
Day 10 · Namibia

Orange River – Lüderitz Bay

The longest stage: this Orange River ride first follows the winding river to Rosh Pinah, then continues to Aus. Around 120 km of tarred road bring us to the historic coastal town of Lüderitz Bay with its German colonial architecture.

Lüderitz Bay – Helmeringhausen
Day 11 · Namibia

Lüderitz Bay – Helmeringhausen

After a cool night in Lüderitz Bay we leave the coast and ride inland into the Namib Desert. Over seemingly endless tracks we reach the desert town of Helmeringhausen with its Wild West flair.

Day 12 · Namibia

Helmeringhausen – Namib Desert

Today's gravel-road stage through the Namib Desert takes us along the border between desert and highland – red dunes on one side, the bizarre Tiras Mountains on the other. Our lodge lies not far from the petrified dunes.

Namib Desert – Windhoek Lodge
Day 13 · Namibia

Namib Desert – Windhoek Lodge

The last major stage climbs 1,000 metres up the Spreetshoogte Pass, giving a final view over the Namib. Through the Khomas Highland we reach the Windhoek Mountain Lodge, where we celebrate with a sundowner and Bushman fondue.

Day 14 · Namibia

Windhoek – Departure from Namibia

This day is free to spend as you like: a stroll around Windhoek, street cafés and craft markets invite you to explore. Your Namibia motorcycle tour ends with an organised transfer to the airport for your return flight.

Day 15 · Namibia

Arrival in Germany

The return flight lands in the early morning, for example in Frankfurt, with onward travel by train or flight if needed. This concludes this guided Africa motorcycle tour, full of impressions from South Africa and Namibia that will stay with you for a long time.
