Spring (Mar–May)
Barely suitable
Rising heat in the lowlands, Himalayan passes still closed
When a motorcycle tour to India is worth it – and which region suits which time of year.
Best time to travel
The Himalaya is rideable only in summer, Rajasthan and the south are better in the Indian winter.
Best season June to September (Himalaya) and October to February (Rajasthan & the south)
Ladakh, Zanskar and the Spiti Valley sit above 3,000 metres and are snow-free only from June to September – the high passes stay closed the rest of the year. Rajasthan and South India, by contrast, are better ridden in the Indian winter half of the year from October to February, when it is drier and cooler than during the monsoon and high summer.

Rising heat in the lowlands, Himalayan passes still closed
Summer/Monsoon (Jun–Sep)
