Bavarian Forest

As one of the most beautiful natural paradises, the south-east of Bavaria with the bordering Czech Republic and Austria invites us to an unusual motorcycle experience. The border triangle still allows many a deep insight into German-Czech relations in the past.

But let's start over. Our Bavarian curve experience leads us first over winding country roads into the Bad Kötzting area. From the former telecommunications tower of the air force on the Hohe Bogen we have a panoramic view over the endless forests of the largest contiguous forest area in Europe. Far away from the main roads, our route takes us over the great Arber in the direction of the three-river city of Passau, where we can enjoy the view of the confluence of the Danube, Inn and Ilz from the Feste Oberhaus while enjoying local delicacies.

Our southernmost section leads us through the Czech border area to the Vltava reservoir. While we cross the lake by ferry, the South Bohemian landscape invites us to take one or two snapshots...

Of course Upper Austria's natural wonder, the Schlögener Schlinge, cannot be missed. The Austrian Mühlviertel with its original and varied landscape, followed by the fascination of the Danube, which still flows freely from Vilshofen, round off our biking experience.

The start and starting point of our day tour is our family-run tour centre at the entrance to the Bavarian Forest. With typical regional dishes we let the eventful day come to an end ... in anticipation of the next day.

itinerary

Day 1:

Individual journey to the tour centre in the Bavarian Forest. Arrive by 6:00 p.m.

Day 2:

Our tour takes us on roads with little traffic and lots of bends northwards, into the Bad Kötzting area, where we enjoy the magnificent panoramic view of the Bavarian and Bohemian Forest from the Hohe Bogen.

Along the state border we ride towards the heart of the Bavarian Forest, the 1456 m high Great Arber, the highest mountain of the Bavarian-Bohemian border area. Back towards the tour centre we visit the forest top walk near Maibrunn, where intrepid visitors can enjoy the view into the Gäuboden up to 30 m above the tree tops.

Day 3:

Today we will go to the still original Bavarian Forest. Away from the usual routes we "experience" the impressive low mountain range landscape - one could think that time has stood still here. Around noon we reach the three-river city of Passau, where we can enjoy a typical regional dish and enjoy the beautiful view of the confluence of the Danube, Inn and Ilz rivers and the baroque old town. Our day tour continues upriver along the idyllically embedded Danube, so that we reach our starting point again after an eventful day in the late afternoon.

Day 4:

The path is the destination, under this motto we cross the National Park of the Šumava. A stage break gives us the opportunity to visit a Czech market and maybe get one or two bargains. Finally, wonderfully embedded roads lead us to the Moldau Reservoir, also called the "South Bohemian Sea", which we cross by ferry. The best motorcycle roads that the Mühlviertel and the Danube Valley have to offer complete this impressive motorcycle tour.

Day 5: After breakfast individual departure
