Southern Finland, rich in water and forests, is the destination of this motorcycle tour. Lappeenranta, Lake Saimaa, some southern Finnish cities such as Savolinna or Jyväskylä and last but not least Turku and the lively capital Helsinki are on your route. Two overnight stays in Lappeenranta allow you to explore the landscape and beautiful nature around Lake Saimaa.
A trip for those who want to enjoy the vast landscape and the sometimes lonely roads of Finland. The daily stages with 200 to 340 km put the focus on riding, on the 4th day you can determine the stage length yourself.
1st day: Arrival
Embarkation in Lübeck-Travemünde in the evening and during the night departure towards Helsinki. Overnight stay on board.
2nd day: At sea
Enjoy a relaxing day at sea. Overnight stay on board.
3rd day: Helsinki - Lappeenranta (about 240 km)
Arrival in Helsinki in the morning. At the end of your journey you can still explore the city extensively and so you first set off in a north-easterly direction. Via the pretty little town of Porvoo and Vaalimaa you ride to Lappeenranta. Your route takes you along the Königsstraße. The old trade route originated in the Middle Ages and led from Bergen in Norway to St. Petersburg in Russia. Later, the route also served as a postal route, with numerous manors and inns lining the way. Overnight stay in Lappeenranta.
4th day: Lappeenranta & surroundings
Today you can use the day to explore the beautiful surroundings of Lappeenranta. You can arrange your daily stage individually. For example, you can ride to the waterfall of Imatra. The Imatra Falls have been a special attraction for more than 200 years. During the summer season between mid-June and mid-August, the lock gates are opened once a day and the river flows into its old granite riverbed. Overnight stay in Lappeenranta.
5th day: Lappeenranta - Savonlinna - Joensuu (about 340 km)
Along Lake Saimaa and through the middle of the watery area you will ride to Savolinna. The castle Olavinlinna is especially worth seeing here. Every year in July, opera festivals take place here. Your further way leads you - via Kerimäki with the big wooden church - to the university town of Joensuu with its rectangular road system. A visit to the North Karelian Museum Carelicum gives a good overview of the region. Overnight stay in Joensuu.
6th day: Joensuu - Jyväskylä (approx. 280 km)
Today you will ride west and - passing the orthodox monastery Uusi Valamo - to Jyväskylä. The city has some buildings by the famous architect Alvar Aalto. A museum is also dedicated to him. Overnight stay in Jyväskylä.
7th day: Jyväskylä - Tampere - Turku (approx. 320 km)
From Jyväskylä you continue to Tampere. Apart from the cathedral and the Russian Orthodox church, the chessboard-like layout of the city is remarkable. Särkänniemi amusement park is also well known, which has a dolphinarium and a planetarium. Your daily destination is Turku. The Finnish city on the southwest coast was founded in the 13th century. The well-preserved Turku Castle, which today houses the city museum, also dates from this century. The cathedral, the church of the Empress Alexandra Martyrs and the market avenue are also worth seeing. Overnight stay in Turku.
8th day: Turku - Helsinki (about 200 km)
Once again follow the route of the King's Road to Helsinki. Time to discover the Finnish capital. Worth seeing are the harbour, the Senate Square with the Cathedral Church, the central Mannerheim Street, the Parliament Building, the Finlandia Hall and the Sibelius Monument as well as the famous Rock Church. Overnight stay in Helsinki.
On a "hop-on-hop-off" city tour you will discover the most important sights of the Finnish capital.
9th day: Departure
At first, there is still time for further explorations in Helsinki. Then embarkation on the ferry to Lübeck-Travemünde and departure towards Germany. Overnight stay on board.
10th day: Arrival in Lübeck-Travemünde
After a day at sea you will reach Lübeck-Travemünde, where your journey ends.
