TOUR ITINERARY

DAY 1: Welcome to Cambodia!

You will be met by your tour leader at the hotel in the morning. He will accompany you on a tour of the capital city and its surrounding areas, giving you the chance to learn about Cambodia’s dark history. Visit the S21 Genocide Museum, the Killing Fields, and the bustling Russian Market. In the afternoon you will receive a full briefing of the trip ahead over a few cold beers, followed by a sunset dinner cruise on the Mekong river.

Accommodation: 4* hotel with the best rooftop pool in the city.

Included meals: Lunch, dinner.

DAY 2: Phnom Penh - Kampong Cham | 130km

We’ll swiftly leave the chaos of Phnom Penh behind us, crossing the mighty Mekong river on a local ferry. Before getting stuck into the dirt we will stop at a buddhist pagoda and receive a good luck blessing from one of the local monks. We’ll then head north, riding alongside the river up towards the riverside town of Kampong Cham. We’ll ride a mix of tarmac, dirt roads and trails, ride across a river island and – if the water level is low enough – finish the day by blasting along a sandy beach alongside the Mekong!

Accommodation: Riverside hotel.

Included meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner.

DAY 3: Kampong Cham - Koh Trong River Island | 160km

Sticking to the side of the Mekong river we will continue north, passing through small villages and fishing communities. We stop at a riverside temple for refreshments before hitting the dirt… Today we will ride a great mix of easy trails, winding dirt roads and some tarmac sections. To finish up the day we’ll board a couple of longtail boats and chug out into the middle of the river to visit the critically endangered Irrawadee river dolphin – cold beers in hand and a beautiful river sunset, it’s a very special way to end the day! To top it off, we finish at a beautiful villa resort on Koh Trong Island!

Accommodation: Traditional style villa resort with a swimming pool.

Included meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner.

DAY 4: Koh Trong Island - Sen Monorom | 240km

We leave the Mekong and ride East on a mix of tarmac and dirt roads. After lunch we have some excellent trail options. For the experienced riders we have the option for some technical off road riding on the old ‘King’s Highway’. The King’s highway offers an exciting mix of rocky hills, tighter singletrack and bamboo bush that snakes up into the hills. The easier option will stick to the smooth blacktop that winds up through the green forests. The afternoon is an easy but exhilarating ride on singletrack and dirt roads, through pine forests and over rolling hills.

We are now in the beautiful Mondulkiri hill province of Cambodia. We stay in wooden bungalows in a nature lodge, where cows and ponies roam free outside your balcony. We’ll finish the day with cold beers around a roaring campfire.

Accommodation: Basic nature lodge bungalows.

Included meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner.

DAY 5: Sen Monorom – Banlung | 205km

Rocky hills, fast-paced dirt roads, open sandy tracks, tight single track and creek crossings, all broken up with tarmac sections in between – today has it all. We’ll finish the day with a swim at a remote waterfall, before arriving at our hillside resort. A brilliant days riding that lands us in the beautiful Ratanakiri province.

Accommodation: Hillside resort with a pool.

Included meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner.

DAY 6: Banlung rest day

The capital of Ratanakiri, Banlung, is home to the spectacular Yeak Laom volcanic lake. Placed in the midst of dense tropical forest, the crystal clear water will be a refreshing break before another day on the bikes tomorrow. Banlung also has some great waterfalls and hill tribe communities for those that wish to explore the area.

Accommodation: Hillside resort with a pool.

Included meals: Breakfast, dinner.

DAY 7: Banlung – Laos Border | 160km

We start by riding a winding dirt road until we reach our first boat crossing of the day. After refreshing with a cold coconut we’ll board the wooden boat and chug over to the other side where the trails await. 35km of amazing dirt roads and sand trails that wind through the trees, cross through rivers and pass through remote villages. We cross another two rivers on wooden boats before reaching the end of the trail.

It’s then a cruise on a wide & dusty road back towards the Mekong River where a private boat will be waiting for us. We’ll load the bikes and enjoy a 20 minute cruise up the river, with a cold ‘Beer Lao’ in hand, to Preah Rumkel where our campsite and BBQ awaits!

This is one nights camping you will never forget! We recruit a local family to set up the camp site so that it’s waiting and ready to go for when we arrive. We base the camp on the sunset side of the sandy beach so you can enjoy swimming in the Mekong River while watching a spectacular sunset. Dry off by the roaring camp fire and enjoy some ice cold beers and a BBQ feast… this is camping Ride Expeditions style!

Accommodation: Private campsite on a river island. We provide everyone with their own tent, blanket, pillow and air mattress.

Included meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner.

DAY 8: Laos Border – Preah Vihear | 150km

The boats will pick us up from our island in the morning and take us over to the west side of the river for a local breakfast. A short ride up river along twisting dirt roads are the breathtaking ‘Khone Falls’ – by volume, the largest set of falls in the world – almost twice the volume of Niagara Falls! It’s then a blast on dirt & tarmac roads before cutting onto an awesome trail through to Preah Vihear province.

We visit the spectacular Preah Vihear temple in the afternoon – perched high on top of a hill on the Cambodia/Thai border, this is one of our favourite ancient Angkor temples!

Accommodation: Boutique hotel with a swimming pool.

Included meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner.

DAY 9: Preah Vihear – Siem Reap | 220km

A mix of dirt roads and trails today, stopping at the impressive Koh Ker ‘pyramid’ temple en route, as well as another small temple hidden in the forest.

Siem Reap is a beautiful and vibrant city. Excellent restaurants and a buzzing nightlife… ‘Pub Street’ will certainly keep you entertained in the evening!

Accommodation: 5* hotel.

Included meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner.

DAY 10: Siem Reap Rest Day

Of course, no visit to Cambodia is complete without viewing the UNESCO world heritage site of Angkor Wat. Rather than joining the sea of tourists visiting in tuk tuks, we’ll board a helicopter and take a short flight to view this incredible temple from the air! After this you will have the rest of the day to spend at your leisure… chill by the hotel pool, visit the landmine museum, floating villages or take a closer look at the temples… this place has a lot to offer!

Accommodation: 5* hotel.

Included meals: Breakfast only.

DAY 11: Siem Reap – Battambang | 185km

Leaving the city behind, we’ll head west towards the Thai border. We’ll ride a variety of dirt roads, tarmac and winding trails as we ride alongside rivers and through tiny Cambodian villages. We’ll meet with our support vehicle for a western style picnic lunch before cutting the corner of the Tonle Sap lake and continuing to the old French colonial town of Battambang. You may even have the chance to sample some of the local rice paddy rats at one of the roadside BBQs! Mmmmm rat. Tastes just like chicken, of course.

Accommodation: Luxury resort with a swimming pool and spa.

Included meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner.

DAY 12: Battambang – Pramaouy | 175km

We start the day by visiting Phnom Sampeau – a small mountain that is home to the chilling ‘Killing Caves’, a hill top temple and some very big guns. It’s an interesting and sobering experience as you learn more about the brutal recent history of Cambodia while eating some fresh mango and fending off cheeky monkeys.

We’ve got some awesome trail riding too – fast paced dirt roads, steep rocky hills, river crossings and winding dirt tracks that climb up in the Cardamom Mountains providing breathtaking views across the hills.

We stay in the tiny mountain town of ‘Pramaouy’. Dinner will be a massive BBQ feast at the guesthouse. But first, why not join the locals for a game of bowls, or take a stroll into the town to sample some of the local dumplings?

Accommodation: Basic guesthouse in a small mountain town.

Included meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner.

DAY 13: Pramaouy – Tatai River | 175km

The final day of this luxury dirt bike tour of Cambodia kicks off with a stunning dirt road that winds up and down through the hills. We then have a water crossing on tiny wooden rafts before venturing into the jungle! Tight singletrack, creek crossings, rocky hills and possibly fallen trees to duck under/carry bikes over. Our support vehicle will be waiting at the end of the trail with some much needed refreshments!

After lunch we will pay a quick visit to a waterfall before cruising down and out of the mountains on a mix of exhilarating dirt and concrete roads.

We reach the Tatai River where we’ll dismount our steeds for the last time. This is where we say goodbye to the local support team as they’ll now load the bikes onto the trailer and transport them back to Phnom Penh.

Then it’s onto the boat to grab a cold beer and enjoy a slow cruise 5km down the river where the luxurious floating river lodge awaits. This is a truly stunning place and the perfect way to bring such an epic adventure to an end!

Accommodation: Floating river resort.

Included meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner.

DAY 14: Departure - minivan back to Phnom Penh

Swim in the river, go for a paddle in the kayaks, or simply enjoy a relaxed morning on your balcony at the waters edge.

The boat will take us back to the main road where a minivan will be waiting to take us back to the capital city of Phnom Penh.

Accommodation: Not included.

Included meals: Breakfast.
