Enduro tour from Windhoek to Cape Town

The tracks between Namibia and South Africa are among the finest an enduro can cover. The route starts on the high plateau of Windhoek and drops down to the deserts of the Namib and Kalahari, to the dune sea of Sossusvlei, into the former diamond exclusion zone and along the empty Atlantic coast. From there it runs through the Fish River Canyon, along the Orange River and its vineyards, through Namaqualand and the Cederberg Mountains into the fruit and wine region of the Cape. Most of the riding is on good gravel, with stretches of tarmac — bookable as a hotel, camping or hotel-only tour, suited to riders with some enduro experience.

Highlights

Fish River Canyon

Stop at the world's second-largest canyon and take in the sheer scale of the Fish River Canyon, a vast gorge carved into the plateau, before the route continues south to overnight at the Canyon Road House nearby.

Sossusvlei Dunes

On foot you explore the red dunes of Sossusvlei, some rising up to 300 metres, and the nearby Sesriem Canyon, before the enduro leg continues on toward the Atlantic coast and the harbour town of Lüderitz.

Kolmanskop Ghost Town

In the former diamond town of Kolmanskop you walk between abandoned buildings the Namib's shifting dunes have steadily reclaimed over the decades, before reaching the coast at the historic Diaz Cross near Lüderitz.

Cederberg by Enduro

A narrow, winding gravel road takes you through the Cederberg Mountains, past rugged sandstone formations and scenic viewpoints, in a mountain landscape some riders compare to Italy's Dolomites.

Cape of Good Hope

The final leg reaches the Cape Peninsula: penguins at Boulders Beach, the Cape of Good Hope inside Table Mountain National Park, and the coastal road at Chapman's Peak back into Cape Town.
