A frank word among bikers:
On guided motorcycle tours with your own motorcycle, riders and passengers from different countries of origin and with different motorcycles meet for a joint trip. As different as the participants are, as different will usually be the motorcycles, which makes for a fun and interesting trip. As with all group activities, these trips require a certain team spirit and a certain adaptation of the individual to the group, so that everyone can enjoy the trip and their motorcycle holiday.

Because not only the choice of routes is a dream, also the variety of this country surprises and amazes. The scenic diversity reveals itself through a tasty combination of lowlands, hilly landscapes, river valleys, and high mountains. Riding pleasure is guaranteed in this unique natural experience. As varied as the landscape is, as rich in tradition is Bulgaria's thousand-year-old culture and history. It is not uncommon to encounter the heritage of ancient civilizations, riding through sleepy villages and past magnificent historic monasteries that nestle picturesquely in the landscape. And while you still have the rural scent of blooming rose fields in your nose, you encounter a cultural mixture of Orient and Europe in the lively capital Sofia.

Tour dates:

From/to Vienna area approx. 3,300 km, medium to high difficulty, roads of different quality levels, potholes, short unpaved sections or sections without asphalt possible, with mountain passes incl. serpentines, city trips, and motorway stages.

Our exclusive itinerary:

Day 1 - Vienna - Belgrade (SRB), 590 km.

Meeting at the agreed starting point near Vienna. After a first short meeting, we start our journey together. On the motorway, we pass Budapest and reach Serbia, where we stop at a hotel in the center of Belgrade on our way to Bulgaria. After arrival, there will be time for a walk along the Danube.

Overnight stay in Belgrade (SRB).

Day 2 - Belgrade - Belogradchik (BG), 305 km

We leave Belgrade and bridge the densely populated areas in the south by highway. We already enjoy the lunch break in the Serbian hinterland before we reach the Bulgarian border in the afternoon. Before dinner, we visit the famous fortress of Belogradchik, a miraculously formed rock formation.

Overnight stay in Belogradchik (BG).

Day 3 - Belogradchik - Sofia (BG), 240 km

The capital of Bulgaria awaits us! Before we reach Sofia, however, we will ride a great motorcycle route and cross the Balkan Mountains to the south. Upon arrival in Sofia, we will take a German-speaking guided walking tour with a local guide in the center of the city to get a closer look at its extraordinary history and culture.

Overnight in Sofia (BG).

Day 4 - Sofia - Rila (BG), 155 km

We spend the morning again in the center of Sofia. We will have time to stock up on souvenirs for the trip or simply enjoy a coffee and watch the hustle and bustle in the pedestrian zone and enjoy the charm of this impressive city. Around noon we leave the Bulgarian capital and head for the Rila Mountains and the national park of the same name. There, the next cultural-historical treat awaits us: the over 1,000-year-old monastery of St. Ivan of Rila is the most important and largest monastery in Bulgaria. During a guided tour we will learn about the history of the monastery.

Overnight stay in Rila (BG).

Day 5 - Rila - Bansko (BG), 260 km

The whole day we will be accompanied by the "Vichren", with 2.914 m one of the highest peaks in Bulgaria, and today we will cycle around it almost completely. We will have a lunch break in the smallest town in Bulgaria with 200 inhabitants, a "museum town" since 1968 and also known for its sandstone pyramids and the local red wine, which even Winston Churchill liked to drink.

We will spend the night in one of the top ski resorts of the country at the foot of the Pinin Mountains, in Bansko (BG).

Day 6 - Bansko - Plovdiv (BG), 290 km

One of the most beautiful riding days of the tour awaits us. Countless curves, a few reservoirs, and mostly very good roads lead us through the southwest of Bulgaria to the second largest city of the country. Located at the foot of the Rhodope Mountains, Plovdiv is the European Capital of Culture 2019 and is considered the oldest city in Europe. First settlements date back as far as 6,000 years. We will get a deeper insight into the history of the city tomorrow morning.

Overnight stay in Plovdiv (BG).

Day 7 - Plovdiv - Veliko Tarnovo (BG), 200 km

After breakfast we take a German-speaking guided walking tour of Plovdiv, there is much to see and hear! In the late morning, we leave the Thracian Plain and cross the Balkan Mountains in the afternoon heading north over one of the most beautiful passes in Bulgaria. Our overnight stop, the former capital, is an important tourist destination thanks to its location on the northern slopes of the Balkan Mountains at the gorge of the river Jantra and its architectural monuments.

Overnight stay in Veliko Tarnovo (BG).

Day 8 - Veliko Tarnovo - Montana, 380 km

A great motorcycle day with lots of curves awaits us: Today we cross the Balkan Mountains twice and ride two passes that are very popular with Bulgarian bikers. We spend our last night in the country that has become so dear to us at the northwest end of the pre-Balkan in the small town of Montana (BG).

Day 9 - Montana - Reschitz (RO), 360 km

In the morning we have to say goodbye to Bulgaria after some very nice days: We cross the Danube northwards and thus the border to Romania. But also in Romania, there are great motorcycle routes, and one of them - on top of it all newly renovated - is still on our program today! The hotel for the night is in the Banat Mountains, in the former K. & K. mining town of Reschitz, or Romanian: Reşiţa (RO).

Day 10 - Reschitz - Vienna (Ö), 600 km.

Unfortunately, it's time to say goodbye today. But before it is time, we will cross the Romanian-Hungarian border together. The guide will also ride with you for a good part of the way through Hungary, until just before Budapest. From there you will ride back home with a lot of nice memories in your luggage, either on your own or with other participants in the group. Your guide will be happy to help you find a great tour home.

End of the trip.
