Description
Nine days Enduro Tour through Central Cuba
Day 1: Arrival in Cuba
We meet in the evening at our accommodation in Havana; a welcome cocktail and your tour guide are waiting for you. Depending on the time of day, we will take a short foray into the nightlife of Old Havana and have dinner in one of the beautiful squares of the Historic Old Town (optional). Small pubs and cafés with live music give us a first impression of the lively Cuban music scene. We stroll through lively alleys and squares in the historic old town core. Restaurants and cafés under the open sky invite you to linger.
Day 2 (50 km): Test ride in Havana
After breakfast we take a tour through the historic Old Town of Havana, where we also have lunch. Afterwards we return to our accommodation, change quickly and meet at the Parque Central to take over the motorcycles. To get acclimated, we will take a short and leisurely tour of the city. Return to the hotel and dinner (optional).
Day 3 (220 km): To the Zapata Peninsula / Bay of Pigs
Today we start early in order not to sweat too much in the city traffic. Our first longer stage leads us over narrow country roads to Matanzas and finally to Jagüey Grande. We spend the night in the resort "Bohíos de Don Pedro" or in well-kept private accommodations in Playa Larga. Our way also leads us past the crocodile farm Guamá, which we visit of course.
Day 4 (100 km): Trinidad / La Boca / Playa Ancón
Along the Bay of Pigs we reach Playa Girón. This is where the invasion force, trained by US secret services, landed in April 1961 to overthrow the revolutionary government established two years earlier. U.S. President John F. Kennedy gave only half-hearted support to the unpopular project inherited from his predecessor in office. The invasion failed and almost the entire invasion force was captured. If you want, you can learn about the historical event in a small museum with documents and photos.
Along the coast we ride on adventurous but scenic roads to Cienfuegos, where we have a rest. Afterwards we follow the Carretera del Sur to Trinidad and further south, where we spend the night in a beach hotel in Ancón. Participants who have booked the private accommodation version will stay in the small village of La Boca.
Day 5 (100 km): Excursion to the Sugar Mill Valley
In the morning we ride to Trinidad. After a short tour through the historical center of the old sugar metropolis, we go on a day trip to the Valley of the Sugar Mills, a scenically beautiful region northeast of Trinidad. From the lookout tower "Torre de Iznaga", a former watchtower to supervise the slaves who toiled in the sugar cane fields, the view extends over extensive sugar cane fields to the Topes de Collantes, the central region of the Escambray Mountains. If you are interested, we will take another spin to Sancti Spiritus and from there we will take a different route back to Ancón or La Boca.
Day 6 (200 km): Via the Topes de Collanes to Santa Clara
Today we cross the central region of the Escambray Mountains: the Topes de Collantes. Passing the Hanabanilla reservoir we reach Santa Clara after about 2 hours of riding. The conquest of the city by the revolutionary troops under the command of Ernesto Che Guevara on December 29, 1958 brought the breakthrough for the final victory of the rebels over Batista's army. The latter fled with the treasury to the USA 3 days later. After a short tour through the city we visit the "Plaza de la Revolución" with the gravesite for Ernesto "Che" Guevara and his fellow fighters. We spend the night in one of the city hotels or in well-kept private accommodations in the city center.
Day 7 (260 km): From Santa Clara to Varadero
After breakfast, we make a detour to Remedios with its well-preserved colonial buildings before heading to Varadero. The Carretera del Norte brings us in a few hours to the peninsula of Hicacos, the most famous seaside resort of Cuba: Varadero, where we spend one night in a good beach hotel.
Day 8 (140 km): Return to Havana
We use the morning to explore the peninsula and have lunch at the hotel. Afterwards we check out and return to Havana via the Carretera del Norte in a few hours. We drop off the motorcycles and check into our hotel in the old town. With a joint dinner we conclude our motorcycle tour.
Day 9: End of the tour or connecting stay
This day is at our free disposal. If you do not want to travel back home yet, we will be happy to help you book a connecting stay, for example a beach extension in Guardalavaca or Varadero.
