Overview

Motorcycle tours Italy at a glance

Motorcycle tours in Italy take you from the Alpine arc in the north down to the Mediterranean islands in the south. The north lines up the Dolomites, Lake Garda and the great Western Alpine passes; central Italy offers the curves of Tuscany and the Apennines; and the south delivers the quiet coastal roads of Sardinia, Sicily and Corsica. With Motourismo you ride these regions guided or self-guided – with experienced tour leaders, planned stages and hotels that fit the route. Whether you are a beginner on the Dolomites intro tour or a high-mileage rider on the 50-passes loop, there is a trip for every level. At Motourismo you compare several vetted operators in one place – with fixed departures, clear prices and personal advice before you book.

What to expect.

Riding areas

Regions in Italy

Where in the country you ride – and what defines each region.

  • Dolomites & Lake Garda

Tight switchbacks between vertical rock towers, plus the lakeside roads around Lake Garda. The classic starter area for a first guided Alpine tour – well-built passes, short stages and dense infrastructure.

    Surface
    Tarmac, twisty
    Season
    May–October
  • Alpine passes & lakes

    Alpine passes & lakes

Stelvio, Gavia, Grandes Alpes and the roads along Lake Maggiore and Lake Como. Here you ride Italy's highest and longest pass roads, often crossing into Switzerland and France.

    Surface
    Tarmac, high alpine
    Difficulty
    Beginner – Intermediate
    Season
    June–September
  • Friuli & Julian Alps

    Friuli & Julian Alps

The quiet tri-border corner between Italy, Austria and Slovenia. Light traffic, plenty of curves and, in Friuli, a real enduro option off the tarmac.

    Surface
    Tarmac & gravel
    Difficulty
    Intermediate
    Season
    May–October
  • Tuscany & Apennines

    Tuscany & Apennines

Gentle hill ridges, cypress avenues and the long crest roads of the Apennines. Here it is less about altitude and more about the rhythm of endless, well-surfaced curves through Chianti and hill villages.

    Surface
    Tarmac, twisty
    Difficulty
    Beginner
    Season
    April–June, September–October
  • Sardinia, Sicily & Corsica

    Sardinia, Sicily & Corsica

Coastal roads above the sea, bare mountain villages in the interior and long ferry crossings as part of the adventure. Sardinia and Sicily ride best in spring and autumn, when the mainland is still or already too hot.

    Surface
    Tarmac, twisty

Bike & riding level

Which bike – and what you need to handle

Machine, difficulty and how a riding day is structured.

Lowered versions and lower seats can be pre-ordered with most operators. They are not automatically available: tell us your inseam before you book and we will settle which machine is reserved for you before you commit. Difficulty runs from Beginner to Intermediate. What matters is routine rather than outright skill: if you can ride several days in a row and still be fresh in the evening, you will do fine.

Motorcycle rental Italy is the norm – the bike waits at the starting point and is already part of the price on most tours. On 7 of these tours you can also bring your own motorcycle. A riding day follows the same pattern almost everywhere: breakfast, a short briefing on the stage, riding with several breaks, and arrival in the afternoon so there is time for the place before dinner. Tours run between 7 and 13 days; the longer ones include rest days.

In short

  • Difficulty Beginner – Intermediate
  • Lowered version & low seat on pre-order
  • Your own motorcycle or a rental
  • Duration 7 to 13 days
  • Format Guided

What our guests say

Real voices from travellers who have been on the road with us.

Booking

Questions about booking

You pick the tour and the departure on this page and send the booking. We check availability with the operator and confirm in writing within one working day. Your place is only firmly reserved with that confirmation – nothing is charged before it.

Usually 20 to 30 per cent of the tour price after confirmation, with the balance about four to six weeks before departure. The exact figure is set by the operator's terms and is given to you before payment – you never pay before you know it.

Yes. The cancellation terms of the operating company apply and you receive them before booking; the earlier you cancel, the lower the fee. Trip cancellation insurance is worth having for a multi-day motorcycle tour and can be arranged separately.

Both work. Solo riders share a double room by default; a single room is bookable for a supplement. A pillion usually pays less than a second rider because no second motorcycle is needed. You choose either option in the booking form.

On some tours in Italy, yes – the price then drops by the rental share. Whether your chosen tour allows it is stated on that tour's page. If riding there yourself is too far, we can arrange motorcycle transport for you.

Every guided tour has a minimum number of riders. If it is not reached, the operator cancels the departure – no later than the deadline stated in its terms. You then get the full amount back or move to another date free of charge.

Not for the road tours. Where gravel or piste stages are part of the route, that is stated in the description and in the tour's difficulty rating. If you are unsure, tell us what you have ridden so far – we will shortlist the right tours instead of leaving you to guess.
