Alpine passes, Venice and the Adriatic

The meeting point is the Illertal service area on the A7, and from there the way runs via Bregenz, Liechtenstein and Switzerland towards the Alps. The Umbrail Pass, Stelvio and Gavia Pass lead into the Val di Sole, then Monte Grappa carries you into Veneto. After the day in Venice with a city walk and boat ride, the route continues through Istria to Medulin near Pula. Via Slovenia and the Soča Valley the way home crosses the Timmelsjoch to Dettingen – on your own machine, guided and with luggage carried in the support vehicle.

Highlights

Stelvio and Gavia Pass

Climbing the Umbrail Pass, Stelvio and Gavia Pass is one of the highlights of the week. Tight bends and alpine views alternate with long ascents before the descent into the Trentino.

Day Ride to Venice

A coach transfer and private boat bring you close to St Mark's Square, with a two-hour guided city walk through the lagoon city. A relaxed day in the middle of the week, before the return to the hotel in Preganziol.

Istria's Coast at Rovinj

The old town of Rovinj and the Adriatic coast near Medulin below Pula are the highlights of this stage. Mediterranean character and winding coastal roads define the section along the Istrian Adriatic.

Soča Valley in Slovenia

The emerald river and the tight curves of the Soča Valley make this stage a highlight of the week. Via Postojna you reach Bovec, surrounded by the Julian Alps of Slovenia and the peaks above the valley floor.

Timmelsjoch to Sölden

The Jaufenpass and Timmelsjoch lead you over the main Alpine ridge into Tyrol. Tight hairpins, alpine panoramas and a fitting finale before the last night together in Sölden in the Ötztal.

Itinerary

Stage 1

Day 1–3

Italy

From the alpine passes of the Trentino through Veneto to the lagoon city of Venice – three stages through the varied landscapes of northern Italy.

Day 1 · Italy

Day 1: Dettingen – Dimaro Folgarida

The start is at the Illertal service area on the A7. Past Memmingen and Bregenz the way runs through Liechtenstein and Switzerland to Davos. Via the Umbrail Pass, Stelvio and Gavia Pass you reach the Val di Sole and your first hotel in Dimaro Folgarida.

Day 2 · Italy

Day 2: Dimaro Folgarida – Preganziol

From the Val di Sole the route continues via Madonna di Campiglio and Trento into the Veneto region. Monte Grappa is the highest point of today's stage, before you reach your hotel in Preganziol via Treviso – the base for the day in Venice.

Day 3 · Italy

Day 3: A Day in Venice

A coach takes you to Tronchetto, then a private boat brings you close to St Mark's Square. A two-hour guided city walk through Venice shows you the lagoon city, before the return to the hotel. A quiet day between two riding stages.

Day 4

Croatia

The Istrian Adriatic coast around Rovinj and Pula brings sea views and Mediterranean character to the programme.

Day 4: Preganziol – Medulin (Istria)

From Preganziol the route heads to the Slovenian Adriatic coast near Trieste, then on to Umag in Istria. After a stop in the old town of Rovinj you reach Medulin below Pula, right on the Istrian Adriatic coast.

Day 5

Slovenia

Via Postojna into the emerald Soča Valley – one of the finest stages for curve enthusiasts.

Day 5 · Slovenia

Day 5: Medulin – Bovec (Soča Valley)

Via Opatija and Rupa you cross into Slovenia. Country roads lead to Postojna and on into the Soča Valley to Bovec – a highlight of the week, with its emerald river and tight curves.

Stage 4

Day 6

Austria

Pass after pass over Predil, Jaufen and Timmelsjoch to Sölden in Tyrol.

Day 6 · Austria

Day 6: Bovec – Sölden

Via the Predil Pass you leave the Soča Valley, stop in Tarvisio and cross into Austria. Along the Lesach Valley via Toblach, Bruneck and Sterzing, the Jaufenpass and Timmelsjoch lead to Sölden in the Ötztal.

Day 7

Germany

The final stage returns via the Hahntennjoch to the starting point at the Illertal service area.

Day 7 · Germany

Day 7: Sölden – Dettingen

Through the Ötztal, along the Inn and via Imst you reach the Hahntennjoch, then Pfronten and the Illertal service area on the A7. Here the week ends before each rider sets off for home individually.
