Grossglockner on Day Two
On the way to Cortina d'Ampezzo eight passes line up, led by the Grossglockner High Alpine Road. Alongside them come the smaller crossings in Friuli, which deliver tight bends and wide views across the Alps.
Sella Loop and Stelvio
Over the Passo di Giau you reach the Sella loop: Pordoijoch, Campolongo, Grödner Joch and Sellajoch, ridden counterclockwise. Then on over the Karer and Mendel passes to the Stelvio with its 48 switchbacks.
Tremola on the Gotthard
Between Andermatt and Sallanches long stretches run through Switzerland with no motorway at all. The St. Gotthard is taken over the historic Tremola road, the old cobbled climb rather than the modern alignment.
Route des Grandes Alpes
Ten passes in a single day, six of them part of the Route des Grandes Alpes: the Col de la Madeleine and the Col du Galibier rank among the ten highest Alpine crossings on the whole run to the Ubaye valley.
Bonette and the Verdon
The Col de la Bonette, the highest paved pass in the Alps, is the high point of the penultimate riding day. After it come the Grand Canyon du Verdon, the Gorges de Daluis and seven further crossings.
