Description

The colonial influence and the overwhelming beauty of the Western Cape will be an incomparable experience and will make you forget to be in Africa.

We will start by exploring cosmopolitan Cape Town and its surroundings with its many activities and views, including of course the panoramic route to the Cape of Good Hope. From Table Mountain we head to the southernmost tip of Africa, Cape Agulhas, where the Indian Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean meet. On the way there, we pass Hermanus, recommended by many as the Mecca for whale watching in South Africa. Continuing east, we explore the Garden Route. The dark blue sea is never far away and there are always views of miles of sandy beaches where the huge foam-capped waves of the Indian Ocean break. East of Eden we cross the Bloukrans Bridge. Here is the highest commercial bungee jumping in the world (216m). In the Tsitsikamma Forest, with its up to 2000 thousand year old trees, one of the last primeval forests of South Africa, one gets an impression of how South Africa must have looked in former times. Soon after we leave the Garden Route and reach the Eastern Cape Province with Port Elizabeth. PE, founded in 1820 by the British settlers, also called "the Friendly City", developed into a trading centre. Nearby we visit the Addo National Park, where we can (optional) see the Big 5 - lions, elephants, rhinos, leopards and buffalos - on a game drive.

Continuing our journey we come to Graaff Reinett, the capital of the Great Karroo or Land of Thirst, as the Khoikhoi call this vast, semi-arid, central plateau. Here we will visit the Valley of Desolation. Oudtshoorn, where we will make another stop, is the ostrich capital of the world. Here we will learn more about these large birds, explore the world famous stalactite caves Cango Caves and then continue through the Little Karroo. Following Route 62, said to be the longest wine road in the world, along the northern slopes of the Langeberg Mountain Range, we return to the heart of the wine region, Stellenbosch, South Africa's second oldest town.

After discovering some of the best routes in southern Africa over the last 14 days, the Magical Garden Route 14T ends in Cape Town and there will be plenty to talk about on our return.
