Five stages, 1,250 km, Munich to Cuxhaven

It opens in Munich. Via Dießen on the Ammersee and Stötten am Auerberg, the first stage runs to Isny im Allgäu, where the first night awaits. From there four more stages head north: through the Tauber valley, the Spessart, the Vogelsberg and the Teutoburg Forest to the North Sea coast. The daily stages run between 185 and 300 kilometres and stay entirely on tarmac. The hotels have secure parking for the machine and, in some cases, a swimming pool.

Highlights

Moated Mespelbrunn Castle

In the Spessart stands the picturesque moated castle of Mespelbrunn, known from the film 'The Tavern in the Spessart'. A guided visit tells you more about its centuries in the hands of the Echter von Mespelbrunn family.

Externsteine in the Forest

The striking sandstone formation of the Externsteine near Horn-Bad Meinberg counts among Germany's best-known natural landmarks. A coffee break with a visit is planned in here on the fourth day.

Artists' Village Worpswede

Worpswede captivates with the artists' colony founded there in 1889. A stop at the Weyerberg is worthwhile, the only notable rise in the otherwise flat surroundings of the north German plain.

Wadden Sea at Cuxhaven

At the finish waits Cuxhaven, right on the UNESCO World Natural Heritage Wadden Sea. The North Sea air and the wide view over the tidal flats close out five days and around 1,250 kilometres of riding.

Ottobeuren Abbey

The second day passes the Benedictine abbey of Ottobeuren, known as the 'Swabian Escorial'. Afterwards the way runs via Ichenhausen and Dischingen into late-medieval Dinkelsbühl and on to Bad Mergentheim.

The way runs in five stages right across Germany, from the Allgäu to the North Sea coast.

Day 1 · Germany

Day 1: Munich – Isny im Allgäu

The start is in Munich. Via Dießen on the Ammersee and Stötten am Auerberg the route runs to Isny im Allgäu, where the first night awaits in this health resort. Around 185 kilometres lie ahead on this opening stage.

Day 2 · Germany

Day 2: Isny – Ottobeuren – Bad Mergentheim

After breakfast the way continues to the Benedictine abbey of Ottobeuren, the 'Swabian Escorial', via Ichenhausen and Dischingen into the late-medieval town of Dinkelsbühl and on to Bad Mergentheim. At around 300 kilometres this is the longest stage of the week.

Day 3 · Germany

Day 3: Bad Mergentheim – Spessart – Alsfeld

From Bad Mergentheim the way leads to the moated castle of Mespelbrunn, known from 'The Tavern in the Spessart', continuing via Jossgrund to Alsfeld – around 240 kilometres through the heart of Hesse and the forests of the Spessart.

Day 4: Alsfeld – Externsteine – Minden

From Alsfeld the route heads via Waldeck Castle to Horn-Bad Meinberg, where the distinctive Externsteine are visited, before the stage ends in Minden after around 240 kilometres. The Teutoburg Forest shapes the entire afternoon.

Day 5 · Germany

Day 5: Minden – Worpswede – Cuxhaven

The final stage runs via Hodenhagen and the artists' village of Worpswede to Cuxhaven on the North Sea coast – around 275 kilometres and the close of these five days, with the Wadden Sea right on the doorstep.
