Five day loops from a single base

It opens at the hotel in Groß Reken, the base for all five days. Every morning the group sets off at 10 am and returns after 6 pm for a shared dinner. The loops run to Burgsteinfurt Castle and Warendorf, to the Pieper windmill in Rekken and the Picker perennial garden in Weseke, via Sendenhorst and the Waltrop colliery to Henxel in Gelderland, on to Cappenberg Palace, and finally to the Kalkarer windmill on the Lower Rhine. A guide rides at the front, and every stage includes a lunch break and a coffee stop.

Highlights

Burgsteinfurt Castle

The first loop runs to the oldest moated castle in Westphalia, on to Warendorf for lunch and to a historic watermill in Alstätte. Around 255 kilometres, which makes it the longest stage of the whole week.

Cappenberg Palace

From Cappenberg Palace in Selm the view reaches across the Lippe meadows all the way to the Ruhr region. Lienen in the Tecklenburger Land follows for lunch and Greven for coffee, before the way back to Groß Reken.

Windmills and Gardens

The Pieper windmill in Rekken, the Picker perennial garden in Weseke and the Kalkarer windmill on the Lower Rhine set the quieter notes. In between lie windmills, small market towns and unhurried coffee stops.

A Hop into Gelderland

On one day the loop runs via Haltern am See briefly across the border to Henxel in the Dutch province of Gelderland, before the roughly 255-kilometre circuit heads back to the hotel.

Base in Groß Reken

You stay in the same house throughout, with a buffet breakfast, a lockable garage, a sun terrace and the Bergstub'n. Dinner is a two-course menu, Wednesday brings a barbecue evening with live music, and a welcome drink follows every loop.
