Five nights in Opatija
The elegant Habsburg era seaside resort is your base for five nights, with the hotel near the centre and facing the water. Art nouveau villas, public parks and the Lungomare promenade all begin at the door.
Plitvice Lakes early on
An early departure for the UNESCO national park, whose turquoise cascades served as the backdrop for the Winnetou films. At around 390 kilometres this is the longest day, and the return runs either over the mountains or quickly along the motorway.
Cres and Losinj by ferry
Two car ferries and three islands in a single day: from Istria across to Cres, on to a fishing village on Losinj and finally back to the mainland over the arched bridge at Krk. Around 200 kilometres, much of it on narrow island roads.
Truffle towns in Istria
The shortest riding day leads away from the water into the centre of the peninsula, past the fortress at Pazin and through a medieval town known for its truffles. After that the route returns to the riviera.
Hairpins of the Ucka
Between inland Istria and the coast stands the Ucka range, and the road over it is one continuous set of hairpins. At the top the view opens across the whole of Kvarner Bay out to the islands.
