Namibia Motorcycle Tour to Victoria Falls

Your individually booked flight marks the start of this Namibia motorcycle tour. Usually on an overnight flight, you head towards Windhoek, where the actual journey through southern Africa begins the following morning.

After arriving at Windhoek International Airport, a one-hour transfer takes you to our own Windhoek Mountain Lodge in the Auas Mountains. After breakfast there's time to acclimatize by the pool, join a short riding briefing or enjoy a sundowner ahead of the legendary bushman fondue dinner – the kickoff of this Namibia-Zimbabwe motorcycle round trip.

A detailed trip briefing along with a full introduction to the motorcycles and GPS devices prepares you for the coming stages of this guided Africa motorcycle tour. A roughly 280 km familiarization ride gets you used to traffic, road conditions and the bike's technology.

Past the eastern Khomas Highland, gravel tracks lead through the thornbush savanna of the central farmland and the Erindi Game Reserve to Mount Etjo Safari Lodge. A game drive reveals giraffes, zebras and antelope, and with a bit of luck rhinos too – genuine Namibia enduro-tour atmosphere, complete with roaring lions after dark.

After a morning game drive, the next stage follows remote farm roads past the Omatako Mountains through Herero tribal land to the Waterberg. This Waterberg stage of the tour offers sweeping views over the 50 km-long tableland on gentle red gravel tracks.

The smooth sandveld track, lined with typical red termite mounds and acacia trees, offers chances to spot kudu, guinea fowl and warthogs. Via Grootfontein and the green Otavi Mountains, the stage reaches the mining town of Tsumeb.

An almost 400 km stage heads purposefully from the garden town of Tsumeb into the Kavango region. The landscape steadily changes, with makalani palms, limestone pans and traditional settlements announcing the more tropical north, until the Okavango River is reached at the border with Angola.

Along the meandering Okavango River, the route passes through villages that live from fishing and farming, on into the historic Caprivi Strip. The stage ends on the edge of Mahango National Park, close to the border with Botswana.

Through Bwabwata National Park and along the paved Trans-Caprivi Highway, this Zambezi stage of the tour reaches Namibia's easternmost town. The wildlife-rich region is home to lions, buffalo, elephants and rare sable antelope, before you reach accommodation right on the banks of the Zambezi River.

Around 1,400 kilometers from Windhoek, this Victoria Falls motorcycle tour crosses through Botswana and Zimbabwe to reach the World Heritage site of the Victoria Falls, where the Zambezi plunges over rugged basalt formations into narrow gorges. Border crossings add to a truly vivid African experience.

A full day is available to experience the Victoria Falls from every angle: bridges and pathways lead through tropical rainforest along the basalt gorges, while a boat trip rounds off the afternoon. Rafting or bungee jumping are available as optional activities.

The identical route takes you back towards Katima Mulilo and into Namibia, passing the Chobe River at Ngoma, where elephants are frequently spotted. On the mighty Zambezi, a boat transfer awaits to a uniquely situated lodge.

The stage follows the border with Botswana along the Linyanti and Kwando Rivers to Mudumu National Park. The Linyanti-Kwando region is an important cross-border conservation area for migrating herds of elephant and buffalo.

Through the unfenced Mudumu and Bwabwata National Parks and along the Trans-Caprivi Highway, the route heads back west. After Divundu, remote sand tracks follow the Kavango River to an idyllic sundowner on the riverbank.

Heading south across the so-called Red Line, the route passes through dry mopane savanna into Namibia's maize triangle. The accommodation lies on a former mission station amid the green hills of the Otavi Mountains.

Around 250 km of gravel track skirt Etosha National Park through remote mopane savanna over pale limestone terrain – another distinctive facet of this varied off-road motorcycle tour through southern Africa's changing landscapes.

Almost entirely off paved roads, the route heads towards Damaraland through sparse farmland in rocky terrain, where elephants have adapted to the dry vegetation. Remote gravel roads bring the group to the Erongo Mountains.

Along the Erongo Mountains and across the hilly valley of the Swakop River, the final stage of this Namibia rental-motorcycle tour leads back into the Khomas Highland and finally to Windhoek Mountain Lodge.

The last day is free to enjoy a relaxed stroll through Windhoek with its street cafés, markets and traditional crafts, before a timely transfer to the airport for your individually booked return flight.

The return flight lands early in the morning in Frankfurt am Main, from where onward travel by train or plane takes you home, bringing this Erongo Mountains and Victoria Falls motorcycle tour to a close.
