Highlights: Moscow with Red Square and Kremlin. Saint Petersburg with the Ermitage Art Museum, Peterhof Palace and the Catherine Palace with the world-famous Amber Room. Great side streets, fascinating cultural program and Russian cuisine.
Day 1: Arrival in Moscow
Once the plane has landed safely in Moscow and you have arrived safely at the hotel in the centre of the city, you can acclimatise a little in your rooms before the first tour meeting takes place. Here you can get details about the itinerary, the route and general information about rules and customs in Russia. Afterwards we will explore Moscow on foot and get a first impression of Russian cuisine in a nice restaurant near the Kremlin.
Day 2: Moscow
A first immersion in Russian life and culture is on the agenda. We start our trip to the city with the Kremlin and the Red Square, visit the GUM (Main Shopping Centre) and the Basilius Cathedral. Afterwards we explore the Moscow Metro and walk along Arbat Street, the most famous pedestrian zone in Moscow, where you can buy authentic Russian souvenirs.
Day 3: Moscow - Valday 400 km
In the morning we ride directly to Red Square to take some pictures of us with the motorcycles. And then it starts: We start into the first stage and leave Moscow in the direction of Valday. It's a long way, so we'll be riding on toll roads and the freeway. These roads were only rebuilt a few years ago and are in good condition. So you also have the opportunity to make friends with the bike extensively. We will have lunch on the way in Tver, a small provincial town about 200 km from Moscow. The Valdaisky Iversky Svyatoozersky Bogoroditsky Monastery, one of the holiest sites for the Russian Orthodox community, is also on the program. We spend the night in a comfortable hotel in the Valday National Park area. Here you can get to know the typical rural lifestyle of the Russians with homemade food. You also have the opportunity to take a typical Banja (Russian sauna with high humidity).
Day 4: Valday - St. Petersburg 400 km
On this stage we cross some smaller cities before reaching St. Petersburg in the evening. One of these cities is Novgorod, one of the oldest and most famous cities in Russia. It celebrated its 1,155th anniversary in 2014 and is considered the birthplace of the Russian state and its democracy. The historical buildings, the Novgorod Kremlin (round castle) and the monastery are still well preserved in the heart of the city. In Gatchina we will have a coffee break and have a rest by visiting the castle and the park. Then we go directly to Saint Petersburg, where we check in at the hotel and have our dinner at the Museum of Russian Vodka.
Day 5 and Day 6: St. Petersburg
On the two "Sightseeing Days" in St. Petersburg there is a lot on the programme: The Peterhof, where we will see dozens of fountains in the lower garden, which have been delighting their viewers for over 250 years. The "Russian Versailles" is nothing short of its French model in luxury, decoration and engineering genius. We take walks in the city centre, e.g. around the Palace Square, on the boulevard "Nevsky Prospekt", to the Church of the Redeemer on Blood and along the rivers and canals in the city. One of the largest and most important art museums in the world is also there: The Hermitage. Pictures by Rembrandt, Rubens, da Vinci and van Gogh, Egyptian mummies, the collection is almost breathtaking. According to calculations, the visit to all the exhibitions in the Hermitage would take at least a week. Unfortunately, we don't have that much time, but you can believe us that you will also be impressed by a visit over half a day. For many THE cultural highlight on the tour: The Katharinenpalast with the world-famous Amber Room.
Day 7: Saint Petersburg - Pechory 350 km
We will visit Pskov and spend the night in Pechory. Pskov is one of the oldest cities in Russia. The very old church directly in the centre, in the Kremlin, has remained untouched. We will briefly visit the city and then ride to Pechory. Pechory is a small town where we stay in a private house with old Russian interior and homemade food. After the hustle and bustle in the big cities, there is pure relaxation and recreation here. We can visit a banya, prepare a Russian grill or ride along the old sights surrounding the city.
Day 8: Pechory - Derbovezh 430 km
On many side roads we reach Lake Derbovezh, idyllically situated near a forest. Dinner will be prepared by a local chef and in the evening you will hear more stories about Russia, our culture and history and enjoy the cosy end of the day.
Day 9: Derbovezh - Moscow 375 km
The last day of the journey takes us back to Moscow. At the beginning we start with approx. 100 km motorway, then we continue on smaller roads until we arrive in Moscow. The last evening we will end together in the best beer restaurant of Moscow.
Day 10:Journey home
Depending on your departure time, you can use the time to pack or explore Moscow on your own. We hope that you have been so enthusiastic about Russia that one day you will come back for another tour and say to yourself:
"Do svidaniya" - goodbye - in Russia.
