Travel info compact:

Day 1: Meeting at 9 a.m. at the rest stop Maxi Autohof Kirchheim at the Grünstadt exit of the A 6 motorway, we drive through the Northern Palatinate mountains into the Hunsrück, down into the Moselle valley, a little way along the Moselle loops and then over the heights of the Eifel to Vianden in Luxembourg. A few more kilometres to the hotel in Clervaux.

Day 2: After breakfast, we start our tour - first north to Malmédy, then to the spa town of Spa, then on to Dinant with its promenade along the Meuse and then in a wide arc via Bastogne back to Luxembourg. Almost in every village there is a tank on a pedestal, for the locals symbols of liberation. Then we go back to Clervaux, where a great dinner menu is waiting for us.

Day 3: This time we continue our journey westwards, via the idyllic small town of La-Roche-en-Ardennes to the fortified town of the crusader Gottfried von Bouillon in a bend of the Semois river. A little further south into the French Lorraine, past the Sedan Fortress to the beautifully restored citadel of Montmédy. Through a tunnel we drive from below into the heart of the fortress. The way back leads us via Arlon and past the reservoir of Esch-sur-Sure.

Day 4: Via Larochette in the heart of Luxembourg we drive to Echternachan on the German border, then along the Sûre river to its confluence with the Moselle at Wasserbillig. Now we drive via the Saarland, the Western Palatinate and the Palatinate Forest to Bad Dürkheim (approx. 3 pm) for the final dinner. Afterwards individual journey home.
