More details

Standard category: Generally 3-star hotels, mostly in central locations
Comfort category: 4-star hotels or upscale room category in 3-star hotels
As a general rule, comfortable hotels cannot be guaranteed in every location. While there is usually a wide range of hotels of all categories in the major cities and tourist centers, we have to switch to lower-classified hotels in smaller towns or rural areas. We then try to compensate for this by offering a higher room category, for example.

Description

Motorcyclists set different priorities than car drivers when planning their trip: the journey is the destination, and so the route largely follows the scenic byways. Three national parks alone are on your route, as is the Estonian island of Saaremaa (Ösel). With eastern Lithuania around the Aukstaitija National Park, the south of Estonia and the expansive Lake Peipus on the border with Russia, you will also reach regions that are not often on the "tourist maps" and thus experience a particularly authentic Baltic region. Of course, cultural highlights such as the capital cities of Vilnius, Riga and Tallinn are also part of the program.

-

Tour character:

This motorcycle tour covers a total distance of around 2,500 km. With the exception of a few gravel passages, you will largely be riding on asphalt roads. Some longer daily stages focus on riding, but are easily manageable. The customizable day tours on the Curonian Spit, in the Aukstaitija National Park and on Saaremaa provide a balance - these allow you to explore without luggage.

The tour is ridden on your own motorcycle. In principle, any motorcycle is suitable, but it doesn't hurt to be comfortable ...

-

Highlights:

- 2,500 km on varied side roads

- charming capitals Vilnius, Riga and Tallinn

- Pure nature in four national parks

- Day tours: Curonian Spit, Saaremaa and Aukstaitija National Park

- Different hotel categories bookable

- pretty harbor towns: Kristiansand, Stavanger and Bergen

-

Tour itinerary:

Day 1: Arrival

Individual arrival in Kiel and embarkation, departure in the evening (approx. 21.00 hrs) towards the Baltic States. Overnight stay on board.

-

Day 2: Klaipeda

Arrival in Klaipeda in the evening (approx. 18.00 hrs) and opportunity for a walk through the historic old town. Stroll to the Theater Square with the famous Ännchen von Tharau fountain, to the old post office or simply along the half-timbered houses, which are unusual for the Baltic States. Overnight stay in Klaipeda.

-

Day 3: Curonian Spit (approx. 100 km)

Ride to the Curonian Spit - along the spit road, through sparse forests, over gently undulating dune tops and always with a view of the lagoon to Nida (Nidden). Most of the peninsula is protected as a national park and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In addition to the unique natural landscape, the former fishing villages of Juodkrante (Schwarzort) and Nida (Nidden) are well worth a visit. Nida captivates visitors with its pretty fishermen's cottages, charming location on the lagoon and relaxed vacation atmosphere. The cafés and restaurants along the promenade invite you to take a break. Perhaps take a walk to the Parnidden Dune before returning to Klaipeda. Overnight stay in Klaipeda.

-

Day 4: Klaipeda - Silute - Vilnius (approx. 350 km)

Ride into the Memel region and along the river Nemunas (Memel). On the way you will pass small towns that are not on the big tourist maps. Behind the town of Jurbarkas, the route leads directly along the Memel. The fact that this was a line of defence of the Lithuanians against the Teutonic Knights for centuries can still be seen today in the castle mounds and castles such as Raudone. The day's destination is Vilnius (Wilna) with its many churches and winding alleyways. The former Jewish quarters are a reminder of the Jewish heritage of the city, which was once considered the "Jerusalem of the North". Overnight stay in Vilnius.

-

Day 5: Aukstaitija National Park (approx. 310 km)

Day tour through the east of Lithuania, to the geographical center of Europe and through the Aukstaitija National Park. The national park is a paradise for nature lovers. The extensive forests are interspersed with a multitude of crystal-clear lakes. Villages nestled deep in the forests paint an impressive picture of the concept of "solitude". The almost untouched primeval forest of Azvinkia with its old pines and oaks is unique. The information center of the national park is located in the administrative town of Paluse. The old wooden church in Paluse and the old watermill in Genuciai are also worth a visit. If you wish, you can plan your way back via Kernave, the first capital of Lithuania. Some hills still bear witness to the castles that stood here in the 13th century. Overnight stay in Vilnius.

-

Day 6: Vilnius - Trakai - Hill of Crosses - Siauliai (approx. 260 km)

Today you travel via Trakai with its famous 14th century castle on an island in Lake Galve and the pretty provincial town of Kedainiai to the "Hill of Crosses" - a popular pilgrimage site with an impressive collection of thousands of crosses of various sizes. Since the suppression of the Lithuanian uprising in 1831, countless crosses have been erected on a hill. The collection was destroyed several times under Soviet rule, but this did nothing to diminish the mysterious atmosphere and the collection itself. Overnight stay in Siauliai.

-

Day 7: Siauliai - Kuldiga - Riga (approx. 340 km)

You travel through Kurzeme (Courland) via Kuldiga (Goldingen) to Riga. During your stop in Kuldiga, you can take a look at the pretty town with its wonderfully preserved historic center. Originally planned as a suburb of the castle of the Teutonic Order, Kuldiga was built in the 17th and 18th centuries. From here we continue to Riga. In addition to the charming landscape, there are various places worth seeing along the way, such as the world's northernmost vineyard in Sabile, the village of Kandava, Slokenbeka Manor and the traditional seaside resort of Jurmala just outside Riga. Overnight stay in Riga.

-

Day 8: Riga

Riga is lively, versatile and also pretty to look at. The best way to explore Riga's Old Town is on a walking tour. Particular highlights are Riga Cathedral, St. Peter's Church, the guild houses, the Swedish Gate, the famous Blackheads' House and Riga Castle, which is now the seat of government. In the New Town, you can marvel at the magnificent Art Nouveau facades - a stroll along Albert and Elisabeth Streets is well worthwhile. Magnificent buildings with rich ornamentation, beautifully decorated façades, bay windows and ornate window elements characterize the streetscape. Riga's market halls are also worth a visit. Overnight stay in Riga.

-

Day 9: Riga - Gauja National Park - Pärnu - Saaremaa Island (approx. 400 km)

First you travel to the Gauja National Park. A stop at the Turaida (Treyden) castle ruins near Sigulda is recommended. Krimulda Castle can be reached by a breathtaking cable car ride - the view is fantastic. In the former Hanseatic town of Wenden, now Cesis, the ruins of the castle and the castle are well worth seeing. You return to the coast. Via the former Hanseatic town of Pärnu (Pernau), the summer capital of Estonia and characterized by pretty wooden villas and picturesque alleyways, you reach the island of Saaremaa. Overnight stay in Kuressaare.

-

Day 10: Saaremaa Island (approx. 140 km)

Today you have a whole day to discover the beautiful island of Saaremaa (Ösel). The island's main town, Kuressaare (Arensburg), presents itself with a medieval castle. There are five windmills near Angla in the north of the island: They are a typical sight on the island and there are said to have once been several hundred of them. Near Kaali there is a meteorite crater, which is also worth seeing. Overnight stay in Kuressaare.

-

Day 11: Saaremaa Island - Tartu (approx. 340 km)

Tour through the south of Estonia to Tartu. The pretty city was mentioned in documents as early as 1030, making it the oldest city in the Baltic countries. A first tour of Tartu will certainly take you to the Town Hall Square with the "Kissing Students" - a warm welcome. The sculpture has become a symbol of Tartu. In general, the university city has a friendly, creative, nostalgic and idyllic feel. And: the first Estonian singing festival took place in Tartu in 1869. Overnight stay in Tartu.

-

Day 12: Tartu - Lake Peipus - Lahemaa National Park (approx. 280 km)

Ride to Lake Peipus. The vast lake and the solitude of the landscape promise a wonderful nature experience, the lonely roads through the forests are a great area for motorcycle tours! Via the Russian Orthodox monastery of Kuremaä, the route continues to the coast and the Lahemaa National Park. Overnight stay in Lahemaa National Park.

-

Day 13: Lahemaa National Park - Tallinn (approx. 100 km)

Round trip through the national park: dreamy fishing villages, manor houses, long beaches, moors, deep forests and gigantic boulders form a tranquil mosaic that you should take in at your leisure. Lahemaa National Park was established in 1971, making it the oldest national park in Estonia. Continue to the Estonian capital Tallinn and time to explore. The medieval cityscape with its winding cobbled streets and pointed gabled merchants' houses, the rock-solid city wall and the massive fortified towers transport visitors back in time. Public life has been taking place on Rathausplatz for many centuries. Restaurants and cafés line the square, and festivals, markets and open-air events are held here. Overnight stay in Tallinn.

-

Day 14: Departure

Ferry crossing to Helsinki and embarkation, departure for Germany in the late afternoon (approx. 17.00 hrs). Overnight stay on board.

-

Day 15: Arrival in Lübeck-Travemünde

After a day at sea, you will reach the port of Lübeck-Travemünde in the evening (approx. 21.30 hrs), where your journey ends.
