Description
Both are an El Dorado for motorcyclists and yet both are so different. Whether storks, Gugelhupf and Edelzwicker in Alsace or Bollenhut, cuckoo clock and Black Forest cherry in Baden, both have their trademarks. What is the Black Forest High Road here is called the Route des Crêtes there, and what could be more obvious than to combine the two in a small Baden-Alsatian round.
Tour description:
Day 1: Individual arrival in Itterswiller
If required, pick up of the rental motorcycle, getting to know each other and briefing
Day 2: The Northern Vosges
Via Saverne we ride into the Northern Vosges and visit la Petite-Pierre. The cave dwellings of Grauftal are another stop on the way to Arzviller on the Rhine-Marne canal with its boat lift. After a detour to the Rocher de Dabo rock, visible from afar, the Col du Donon is another destination before heading towards our hotel via Struthof and past the Neuntelstein. (... ca 270km)
Day 3: Route des Crêtes
The Route des Crêtes is undoubtedly a dream road, a panoramic road that mostly follows the ridge of the Vosges mountains and always offers magnificent views, sometimes to the south, sometimes to the Rhine valley or to the west, and in the course of which such famous names as Grand Ballon or Col de la Gorge appear. (... about 300km)
Day 4: Deux Balloons
With this route we connect the Vosges with the Black Forest, and two brothers, the Grand Ballon in Alsace and the Belchen in Baden. Together they have also curves up to the drop, with a small difference, in French one writes curve virage. (... about 300km)
Day 5: Through the witches hole to the Hex vom Dasenstein
We start with an excursion to the northern Black Forest. Through the Hexenloch (witches' hole) we go via Furtwangen, the Prechtal and Wolftal to the Black Forest High Road to visit the Hex von Dasenstein down in Kappelrodeck. Over the Löcherberg and Strittberg we ride to the Kandel over its northern side. We continue on a dream route, via St. Peter and St. Märgen, with always wonderful views. (... approx. 280km)
Day 6: The 8 thousands
You won't believe it, 8 grand in the Black Forest, there's a lot more. But today we take the most beautiful 8 thousand, or rather, the one with the most beautiful curves under the wheels! To memorize, memorize by heart or just melt in your mouth, here they are:
- Belchen 1414m (the most beautiful)
- Blue 1165m (the most western)
- Feldberg 1493m (the highest)
- Herzogenhorn 1265m
- Schauinsland 1284m (with the fantastic view)
- Silver Mountain 1358m
- Stübenwasen 1386m
- Dead man 1321m (the most remote)
To the tour description: curves, bends, view, curves, enjoy, wow! (... approx. 275km)
Day 7: To the saltpetre makers in the Hotzenwald
The valleys here in and around the Hotzenwald are wildly romantic, deeply grooved, gorge-like forest valleys with steep rock faces and the narrow little roads wind their way between the stream and the rock face. On the bare mountain ridges you have a wonderful view over the High Rhine to the Swiss Alps when the weather is fine. (... approx. 250km)
Day 8: Departure day
After about 1650km on the road and many more impressions, it's au revoir and goodbye, everyone starts his individual journey home. The riders with rental motorcycles ride back to the rental company together.
