Tour itinerary:

DAY 1: Arrive in Hội An - Welcome to Vietnam!

You’ll be met at Da Nang international airport and transferred to our fantastic oceanfront hotel. Take some time to relax on the beach or explore the beautiful city.

The group will get together in the afternoon to receive a briefing of the trip ahead. After this it’s out into the town for a welcome dinner of authentic Vietnamese food – it’s great stuff!

Accommodation: 5* hotel.

Included meals: Dinner.

-

DAY 2: Hội An - Hue 150km

After meeting the local team and making some personal adjustments to the bikes, we hit the road and begin our journey north. It’s the first riding day of this luxury motorcycle tour of northern Vietnam and it’s an absolute corker!

We pass over the spectacular Hai Van pass and stop at viewpoints to take in the stunning views across the South China Sea. The roads are just brilliant – this is where the famous Top Gear trio did some of their best filming – a beautiful ride as we follow the coastal roads north to our destination of Hue, the former imperial capital.

An easy first day will arrive us at our luxury beachfront resort early afternoon, giving you time to explore the sights of the city or the elaborate tombs in the countryside. If this isn’t your cup of tea, there’s always the resort pool or beach!

Accommodation: Beachfront resort.

Included meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner.

-

DAY 3: Hue - Khe Sanh 220km

Wake up to a beautiful sunrise across the ocean before saddling up for another cracking day of motorcycle riding in Vietnam. We continue north on coastal roads, riding alongside sand dunes and rice fields up to Vinh Moc tunnels. Here exists a network of tunnels where many villagers lived underground during the Vietnam war.

Leaving the coast behind for now, we head west and cross the width of the country, finishing up in Khe Sanh, a small town close to the Laos border.

Accommodation: Guesthouse.

Included meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner.

-

DAY 4: Khe Sanh - Phong Nha National Park 220km

We’ll start the day by visiting the site of a former US marine base. This was the target of a famous siege in the prelude to the Tet Offensive in 1968 – one of the largest military campaigns of the Vietnam War.

Now riding parts of the infamous Ho Chi Minh Trail, we ride north, passing a number of significant wartime locations en route, including overgrown remnants of the original trail.

In the afternoon we reach the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ke Bang National Park. It’s a beautiful ride as the roads cut through lush green jungle.

Accommodation: Hotel.

Included meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner.

-

DAY 5: Phong Nha National Park - Vinh 150km

Phong Nha National Park is home to the World’s largest cave, where civilians and military took shelter from the bombings of the war. The best way to explore this monster cave is by water, so after breakfast we’ll hop on a boat and take a short trip deep into the cave.

The landscapes today offer some of the most stunning views in all of northern Vietnam, with karst limestone mountains towering above the green rice fields. The riding too is phenomenal, with twisting mountain passes that lead us up towards our destination of Vinh.

We finish the day with a visit to the Ho Chi Minh Trail museum. You’ve read the books and seen the films, but there’s nothing quite like learning about the ‘American War’ from the point of view of Vietnamese locals.

Accommodation: Hotel.

Included meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner.

-

DAY 6: Vinh - Pù Luông Nature Reserve 340km

It’s a big distance today, but the good roads along the Ho Chi Minh highway allow us to comfortably make good time.

We reach the Nam Ma River and visit a bamboo chopstick factory in the afternoon – with absolutely zero health & safety considerations in place, it’s always an interesting visit!

We reach our destination of Pu Luong valley, where we’ll be staying in a stilted house with a local family. It’s a beautiful setting and the host family put on an incredible feast (and no doubt a few shots of rice wine!).

Accommodation: Homestay.

Included meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner.

-

DAY 7: Pù Luông Nature Reserve - Phúc Yên 150km

Wake up to the sounds of the village coming to life, as the locals walk their buffalo out to the fields and the ducks and chickens peck around our bikes.

Continuing our journey north, we ride up to meet the Black River (more beautiful than it sounds!). We board a local ferry which will chug us over to meet Highway 32 on the other side. It’s a great afternoon’s ride through rolling hills and villages.

Accommodation: Hotel.

Included meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner.

-

DAY 8: Phúc Yên - Mù Cang Chải 150km

Now reaching the highlands of North Vietnam, we travel through the mountains and witness incredible views of the impressive terraced rice fields that line the hills.

The villages up here are just beautiful as we pass through minority communities of Hmong and Dao tribes, where the locals are colorfully dressed in red and black attire. This is the real Vietnam, right here!

Accommodation: Guesthouse.

Included meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner.

-

DAY 9: Mù Cang Chải - Sapa 150km

Continuing through the highlands, we pass alongside forests and tea plantations. We cross numerous passes, including the highest pass in Vietnam: Tram Thon pass, at 1900m. This pass is known as ‘Heaven’s Gate’, due to the incredible views that open up in front of you at the top.

The terraced rice fields become more and more impressive as near Sapa. We arrive at an incredible resort, high up in the hills with 360° views of rolling hills of rice terraces. Listed on National Geographic’s ‘Unique Lodges of the World’, it would not make sense for us to spend only one night here! So take some time to relax and recharge the batteries before the final day of riding and overnight train to Hanoi.

Accommodation: Luxury lodge.

Included meals: Breakfast, lunch.

-

DAY 10: Sapa rest day

Relax by the pool and take in the view. For those that can’t sit still, there’s plenty to see and do around the hills of Sapa and we’ll happily take you out for some more riding!

Accommodation: Luxury lodge.

Included meals: Breakfast.

-

DAY 11: Sapa - Lào Cai (150km) - Hanoi

It’s the final day of riding on this motorcycle tour of Vietnam and it will not disappoint! We pass through more tribal villages and reach the Red River and the border of China.

Descending from the highlands, we reach Lao Cai. Here we will have time to take a shower and have dinner before boarding an overnight train to Hanoi.

Accommodation: Overnight sleeper train – twin bed cabins (or private cabin if you opt for single room accommodation).

Included meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner.

-

DAY 12: Hanoi - Hạ Long Bay

Arriving in Hanoi at 6:30 am, we will collect the bikes from the train and take a short ride through the backstreets of Hanoi to the workshop. We’ll have some breakfast and be scooped up by a minivan that will drive us out to Ha Long Bay, another UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here awaits our private boat.

Ha Long Bay is a stunning place, with karst limestone mountains sticking out of the blue waters all around us. After such an epic journey, this is the perfect way to bring it all to an end! Relax on the deck, have a swim in the crystal clear waters, or take one of the kayaks for a paddle through small coves.

Sunset cocktails on deck? Why not.

Accommodation: Private boat.

Included meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner.

-

DAY 13: Hạ Long Bay - Hanoi

Sunrise in the bay often comes with a low lying fog, which, combined with the views of the karst mountains, provides an almost eery feeling. It’s certainly a relaxing place to wake up!

We’ll travel back to Hanoi where our journey comes to an end. Our hotel is perfectly located in the Old Quarter, where the bustling streets lend endless opportunities for souvenir shopping or just an entertaining stroll!

We’ll go out for a farewell dinner and no doubt a few celebratory drinks. Hanoi is a very lively city!

Accommodation: 5* hotel.

Included meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner.

-

DAY 14: Departure - Transfer to the Airport

Saying our goodbyes, we’ll arrange for a taxi to take you to Noi Bai international airport. Bon voyage!

Accommodation: Not included.

Included meals: Breakfast only.
